Annabelle

Adopted!
New Name:
Age: Senior
Sex: Female
Breed: Labrador Retriever
Weight: 63 pounds
Current Location: Frisco, Texas
Adoption Date: September 2, 2022
Adopted by: Bill and Judith Brooks
Latest Update:
Here they go, we finally found a new home for Remy and Annabelle to live their lives out together.
Bill and Judith Brooks from Frisco, Texas previously adopted our rescue Aerosmith who is a chocolate Lab. They have been watching the page for quite a while and know all of the details about these two sweet girls. They recently lost their other dog and Aerosmith is a little lost as she is a shy dog and always needs a more confident dog in her life. Enter Anabelle and Remy both of who are tail wagging, confident girls that love everyone and everything…They are a perfect match for this family, neither of them one bit deterred by the meat waffle and said they are happy to oblige all day long..
They both wagged their tails out the door and gladly got in the car and we are pretty happy about that…
Happy life girls, share with us lots of photos on Happy Tails!!!
About Annabelle:
This story has upset all of us and it will upset you too. I’m sure some of you remember these two girls showing up at the ranch in the past looking for their owners. It’s happened 4 times actually and each time we’ve found their owners and they were taken home.
They live several miles from the ranch but seem to find their way to us. Our electricians daughter-in-law who lives down their way has also taken them in running loose in the past.
This time I told Laura I feel it’s time to approach them surrendering these dogs because they aren’t safe and at some point if you can’t keep them safe in their yard they are going to be killed on the road. They are traveling far enough to be near highways.
We knew they weren’t spayed the first time we had them so that was worrisome. This time Laura reached out to their owner once again and said please consider what’s best for them and surrender them to the rescue.
They did….
We are told that Annabelle the yellow Lab is 13 years old and we were told she has some peeing issues so I think she might have been put outside. Remy the chocolate Lab is 8 years old. We have no issues with either girl leaking pee or soiling their den at night. Both of these girls are so happy at the ranch they came in and made a straight line to the pond. Both of them just as sweet as can be, neither of them looking for a way to escape the yard like they constantly did at their home. We have to assume they didn’t like being left and when they were then they would leave. They are both chubby and out of shape and hardly athletic enough to jump any fence and here they have no interest in that.
So we have had Dr Reno look at them both., neither of them are spayed at 8 and 13 years old. Ugh
Both of them are sick with heartworms and will now need to undergo treatment to kill them. Both of them are overweight and need a dental, Remy is limping on her back leg and may have a torn ACL so we will look at what we think is best for her.
Both girls will be spayed as soon as possible but they both have a log road ahead of them to get them as healthy as we can. We are just glad to have them in our care and we all can know that they won’t ever be out running loose again. Finding homes for these senior girls will be a challenge but we are up for it and we know the village is too.

Welcome to Dog Ranch Rescue Annabelle and Remy.

UPDATE 8/23/2022
We hoped for so much more but sadly it never came to fruition. These two girls have nothing but bad luck, years of living their life in a home uncared for and always breaking free from their yard only to end up with us at the ranch. Adopted out to a home together only to be returned because Remy uses her paw for love and attention. They have been with us for months now and they are weary, grumbling at younger energetic dogs because they have had it with nonsense, they can’t eat together in a den anymore which is a new behavior that just comes from dogs losing their patience. you see the ranch is lots of fun for dogs to come for short stays, there is lots of energy, lots of new faces, lots of dogs running and playing and having a great time on their vacation. The ranch is not a place that a dog would like to live, it would be like us trying to live a normal peaceful life at Disneyland. We had a couple people apply for them together, that eventually backed out, we had one good potential for them who also disappeared when the time came for them to be ready to go.

Surely there is a home out there somewhere that would love these two girls together? We don’t really want to separate them but maybe that’s the only chance they will have. Annabelle is 13 years old for goodness sake, and Remy is 8 they are great girls, I mean really great girls who we would welcome to just live at the ranch forever but that is not nice, it’s not ideal and it’s not what is best for them.

UPDATE 7/26/2022

Don’t forget about Remy and Annabelle. They still don’t have a home. We have a few apps that aren’t a great fit. We want these girls to go to a home together and they are both seniors, adopted for a few hours and then returned because Remy (chocolate Lab) likes to paw at you with her meat waffle. 🤨

UPDATE 7/15/2022
I’ve thought for two days how do I write this post?
Sometimes I loathe my job as the voice of the rescue here on this page. When things go well, that is of course great but when things go bad, things that make me angry no matter how hard I try not to be, then my job is two fold.
First and foremost my job is to tell the dog’s story, it doesn’t matter about the people involved. That is the hard part, I don’t want to hurt peoples feelings, but my feelings are hurt and it’s only human to lash at that. I need to be the bigger person but sometimes I don’t want to. I need to protect people from a mob of people lashing at them, but I have to tell the dogs story at the same time.
This isn’t an easy role to have but it’s what I have to do.
I’m going to start in the beginning to refresh your minds on who Remy and Annabelle are. Two senior Labs that lived near the ranch, they did not have a good home, they had a home that they escaped from over and over again, we harbored them at the ranch a couple of times, finding their owner and sending them back. The final time we asked the owners if they would please surrender them. They did.
Annabelle the yellow Lab is 13 years old, Remy the chocolate Lab is 8 years old. Once we had them examined we learned neither had ever been spayed, both of them were Heartworm positive, Annabelle had mammary masses that were in fact cancer. We started the process of vetting these girls that clearly had never been taken care of in any way that we would think was proper.
It took us months to get them healthy but even though we did all of the surgeries and procedures that they needed it doesn’t remove the fact that they are seniors and Annabelle will not have a lot of time left in her life, its only logical to see that. Her cancer was removed but its still there, and all we can do is monitor for recurrence.
These girls are splendid lovely girls that are bonded to each other, they have always been together, they ran away together, and they always stayed together. They love the ranch, they love people, they love swimming, and everyone, at the ranch and the sanctuary adore these girls. We never received an applications for either of them except for one. A very nice lady, with a very nice home and a very nice interview with Laura, she wanted to adopt them both together. It took a long time to finally get them ready for adoption but we did.
They were adopted on Monday and on Thursday morning Laura got an email that said she couldn’t keep them. Remy paws at her for affection and she said “that some may think its cute but she has to cover her legs and tell her no but she still does it and she’s in no position to untrain her”.
She also said that Remy is a little strong on the leash sometimes and she didn’t think her dad could walk her. She offered to keep Annabelle and return Remy but that was just out of the question for us. We told her to bring them both back. This morning she dropped both girls back to the ranch and that was it, their adoption reversed.
The dogs were in their new home for 2.5 days and the paw from Remy looking for some love ended it for them both. Wes always has a sentence that he says that I think captures my thoughts in a nutshell “We’ve tried nothing and we’re all out of ideas”
Does that make me angry? Yes, yes it does. Does it make our entire team of volunteers and employees angry? Yes, yes it does.
Do I want this person attacked by the village, no, no I don’t, but once again my job is to tell the dogs story, this is their story, there isn’t anything in this story that isn’t true, it’s not a lie, its not exaggerated, its the truth. I’m sorry that she wouldn’t make even a small effort to correct Remy for pawing her, I’m sorry that this felt like a logical reason to return them, I’m sorry that it made her sad to return them, I’m sorry that after months and months and thousands upon thousands of dollars for their medical care allowed them 2.5 days in their “forever home”
If that makes you mad, well, I understand, should we attack this person? No, no we shouldn’t, as our mamas taught us, if you don’t have anything nice to say, then don’t say anything at all. Believe me I have lots of not nice things to say but I’m not going to.
We can keep all of that to ourselves together.
There isn’t anything else to say about that, not another second of time will be wasted on the subject.
Now we have two senior Lab’s who are gems, they are lovely, they are friendly, they are happy, they love everyone, they love life, they love to swim, they love affection, and yes Remy will give you her meat waffle for some pets. These girls have never had the kind of life that they always deserved, and they may end up spending their whole life at the ranch who knows, but we aren’t splitting them up and we know that’s a very difficult home to find.

If you want to adopt a Lab you’ll have to a adopt two Lab’s. You have to love Lab’s and you most importantly have to be willing to give them the best life ever for the rest of their days, forever and ever……no matter what…including the paw asking for love.

UPDATE 5/16/2022

Annabelle and Remy happy as clams at the ranch. They love swimming, they love just chewing on a stick together in the shade.
Hard to envision these sweet old girls breaking out of their yard all the time to run off.

They never want to leave the ranch but clearly that’s not an option 😂😂🤣

UPDATE 5/15/2022

Absolute staff favorites, these lab girls are just loving life at the ranch. Sadly these two girls don’t have any interest for adoption, we aren’t sure why, they are both perfect sweet old Lab girls.
Annabelle and Remy❤️
