Annuschat

Adopted!
New Name: Maggie Mae

Sex: Female
Breed: French Bulldog
Weight: 29.7 pounds
Current Location: Pottsboro, TX
Adoption Date: March 5, 2021
Adopted by: Lainie Ramsey
Latest Update:
What a very, very long road it has been for Annuschat. When she went down with her back we scrambled to get her to surgery as quickly as possible. We still didn’t know if she would ever walk again, but she is a determined little naughty girl and with the help of Millie she not only recovered but she flourished. Yesterday it was time for Millie to send her off to her forever life:
Annuschat was adopted today by Lainie Ramsey from Pottsboro, TX. She’ll have a 1 1/2 yr old Frenchy brother named Jim Ramsey Dobbs. Currently, Jim goes to work with mom so Annuschat will be joining them. Lainie loves Frenchies and really feels Jim would love having a friend. She has been warned about Annuschat’s antics and inquisitive nature and feels she’s up for the challenge. I can’t wait to see what mischief this little girl gets into! BTW don’t be surprised if you see a double doggie stroller cruising around Pottsboro in the near future.
Happy life little stinker.
About Annuschat:
This is the only blue girl we were successful with. She was born on 8/2/15, so she has lived 5 long years in the mill as a production line piece of equipment to make Frenchie babies for the public to purchase from pet stores, and the internet.
Formerly #127 A
We will be naming her after an entire family with this story:
“Here is a short story that might be worthy of a rescue name. The name is “Annuschat”. Pronounced as Annashot. This family is from Okarche, Oklahoma. A town of roughly 1500 people. A large family, German Catholic, originally born were 10 children. 2 brothers were previously deceased before COVID. Well as it happened, 1 brother contracted it and was able to recover. Unfortunately, at the same time, 4 more siblings were diagnosed, 3 passed away at the end of October. The sister, unfortunately passed away this morning. So very tragic for any family to endure. All the men lived on the family farm, farming the land and raising cattle and lambs. So I’m nominating this family name as a sign of New Life.”
Our hearts go out to this entire family, so very, very sad.

Welcome to Dog Ranch Rescue Annuschat 💖

UPDATE 2/2/2021
It’s not surprising we have very little interest in adopting Annuschat. She went down with her back and was rushed into surgery for IVDD. She came through it with flying colors with many thanks to Millie, she has completed all of her physical therapy and this is her today.
I asked Millie to write a little bit about who she is because its hard finding an application that will be a good fit for her.
She warned us that she is very naughty…
“She is a doll who loves attention..very Velcro until she’s not then she’s into mischief.. it takes lots of patience to work with her.. lots of redirecting.. exercise .. I’ve started walking her more .. we go slow but we are going further and that helps to wear her out.. she knocks down our gates.. tries to climb the counters.. chews on everything including electrical cords.. if I can’t be watching her she has to be crated .. she eats poop.. hers and others and she’s really fast so you have to be watching her.. I’ve tried leaving her out in side yard with the others while I am working outside but she eats junk then gets sick and throws up at night.. she is slowly learning what she can and can’t do..when I see her on a bed chewing a bone I know it’s all worth it.. but geez it’s not easy. also she is way too interested in the cat.. do not think she’d be good in a home with a cat”.
We don’t pull punches with our rescues, when I say naughty, clearly she is very naughty and will require and owner who is going to put the work in. Clearly her back is the least of our concern, she feels great and she is up and at life every single day. We are waiting for Annuschat to come out of heat so she can be spayed but in the meantime we will be taking applications for her..

Are you her family ?

UPDATE 1/26/2021

This girl is doing fantastic, from paralyzed and unable to walk to now not only back on her feet, but the naughty pants are in full force. We will be spaying Annuschat in a few weeks and after that she will be ready for adoption. She is a sassy, spunky, funny girl and we hope people won’t be hesitant about adopting her because she’s had to have back surgery to restore the feeling in her legs.

UPDATE 1/19/2021
Annuschat wanted to let everyone know Wednesday will be her last Physical Theraphy session. I think she’ll miss it because they give her treats.. she even knows when we’re going there. She has also settled down around the house a little but still has to be watched closely. Annuschat is probably one of the most inquisitive Frenchy’s I’ve known… nothing is out of bounds no matter how high or how far..
We did a fix on the gate area to keep her from trying to get to the cat.. she isn’t happy with me. We also had a breakthrough today after PT she actually laid down on a dog bed and chewed a bone.. when I took her picture it was “like what’s the big deal” Don’t tell her I said anything but she is a “poop eater” you have to be really, really fast to get it before she does. Having said that it doesn’t make any difference this girl is a winner …anyone that gets her will be in love and very, very lucky!

UPDATE 1/12/2021
Annuschat is up on her feet……..and this is the update foster mom Millie is giving about her!!!!
Any of you remember the song “Maneater” ?
“Look out here she comes….”
That’s Annuschat ..
Coming off crate rest and that song keeps going thru my mind.
Pulled the plug on my freezer
Pullout the plug on my phone charger
Chewing up the rugs
Chewing on the new dog beds
Tried to get to the chimes outside
Tried to get to the weather station
Really wants to get to the cat

🤣🤣

UPDATE 12/16/2020

Annuschat continues with her rehabilitaion therapy, including water therapy. Millie sent us some videos to see how this sweet girl is doing who wants to walk again so very badly.

UPDATE 12/12/2020

Millie is now taking Annuschat for her rehabilitation appointments to help her learn to walk. Millie said yesterday that Annuschat stood the whole time on all 4 legs for her meal which is fantastic…

UPDATE 12/6/2020
From Millie:
We got the new sling that Renee sent and it has really helped. We practice walking every time I take her out of the crate along with doing some PROM exercises to get her stronger. Still working on getting the timing down on when to take her out so she has a chance to potty outside but she is peeing and pooping so that is all good.. I feel she is improving.. when she first came home there was a lot of panting whenever I took her out of the crate to move around but now she’s ready to go one way or the other.. still gets tired quick but no longer panting. We have caught her trying to push herself up on several occasions. She actually stood herself up to eat for just a few seconds tonight then leaned into the crate and sat down.. she loves the boil chicken so we’re using that to motivate her.. Annuschat is eating well now and I make sure she drinks every time we’re out plus she has a small water bowl in her crate. I also add warm water to her food to keep her hydrated. She is a very determined, sweet and loving girl.

UPDATE 12/1/2020
Annuschat was released today, they are very pleased with how well she has done, of course she has a very, very long road ahead of her but she is urinating on her own, she has feeling in her toes and her legs and we are so very hopeful that she will continue to improve. Millie went to pick her up today, get all of the necessary instructions to care for her, and the timelime of rehabilitation appointments that she will need to continue to get better and hopefully will walk again.

I would like to take a moment and thank the village for your donations to pay for the expense of this surgery and rehab and for your support with thoughts and prayers as well. A huge thank you to Millie for always being there with difficult fosters needing a variety of care. This will be a long road but we remain hopeful.

UPDATE 11/29/2020
The update we got this morning on Annuschat was that she is eating and drinking, she is “slightly improved” she has some motor in her hips which is the first sign of coming back to mobility. She is sling walking, but not urinating very much, they put in a catheter to help with hydration and they hope this will improve in 12 to 24 hours with increased IV fluids.

All in all a this point of recovery we are pretty happy with what we are seeing, of course its no guarantee of a full recovery but we are going to focus on the positive right now.

UPDATE 11/28/2020
It was a long day yesterday but finally around 5:00 pm Laura spoke to the surgeon who had already performed two IVDD surgeries on Frenchies that day and Annuschat would be number 3.
She said that she didn’t have a lot of feeling in her feet just before going into surgery but she did have deep pain sensation. She was taking her straight into surgery then. We didn’t hear anything again until this morning when Laura talked to an intern who told us that Annuschat did well through surgery.
First and foremost they said they expect a good outcome for her, she never lost pain sensation, she is comfortable right now but unable to urinate on her own. She has no motor ability in her back legs but she does have feeling in them. There was a large amount of disc material removed from her spine, but she is stable and doing well.
That is really all we can ask for at this point and hope and pray she recovers and slowly but surely gets better. This is a very serious situation and will require months of rehabilitation. Millie is on board and checking in to see when she would be needed to take over her care. I asked Millie yesterday if she had any experience expressing a bladder manually and she said no, but I’m already on the internet learning about it and the doctors will show me too. This my friends is a lady who has a heart of gold and is an invaluable foster for our rescue.

I want to send a thank you to everyone who donated to pay for these expenses for Annuschat, this kind of specialized veterinary medicine, with the surgeon, diagnostics, technicians and a critical care facility are not cheap. She is getting everything possible and all of that is thanks to you.

UPDATE 11/27/2020
Last night the volunteers were a little worried about Annuschat, she seemed stressed but nobody could put their finger on what might be the issue, she was moving about trotting around the yard without any obvious physical issue. This morning the sanctuary opened to her unable to walk. Ricky rushed her to the ER but they quickly determined she would need surgery, our usual surgeons are not open because it’s a holiday and the only place for us to go was to Med Vet in Dallas. Ricky once again picked her up from the ER and drove her to Dallas and they assessed her and gave us an estimate and a prognosis, unfortunately they then told us they couldn’t do the surgery and we weren’t sure why but we once again had to move her again. Mr. Ricky Barnes has transported her from the sanctuary to the ER, from the ER to Med Vet and then from there to a surgical center in Grapevine which we came to find out had a division of DVSC in this hospital that we weren’t aware of. It has been awful, just awful. Her prognosis has varied from a 50/50 chance of her walking agin to 75% chance of walking again but she needs surgery today and the longer she goes the lower her odds go.
We cannot thank Ricky enough for being on the road all day trying to get her the critical help she needs…
It’s a holiday weekend and it is just awful to be subject to limited surgeons because of it. Right now the surgeon has 3 IVDD Frenchie in the hospital, he has one of them finished with surgery has started the second one and Annuschat will be next in line.
The estimated cost is between 6,000 and 8,000 and she will go for surgery now.
I need everyone to all rally around her and hope and pray surgery will be successful. Foster mom Millie who handles our serious medical injured dogs has already raised her hand and said she will take care of her post surgery and work on her rehabilitation.
