Latest Update:

We knew it was going to be a challenge to find Buttercup a new home after her previous owner unexpectedly passed away about two months ago. Buttercup is a senior, she dislikes other dogs, and really, really misses her Mama. She has been the princess of the sanctuary for the past month, having full access to the lobby- but not spending time with any of the other dogs. A few weeks ago Apryl Ward of Houston, Texas reached out about Buttercup. After going through a lot of change and loss of her own this past year, she felt like the two of them could help each other heal. We could not agree more, and today when Apryl and Buttercup finally met, it was the happiest I’ve seen this sassy little Frenchie the entire time she’s been with us. I hope that Buttercup’s first Mama is looking down on this adoption today and knows that Buttercup will be loved and taken care of for the rest of her days. And a HUGE thank you to Apryl for opening your heart to this very special girl. Safe travels home! ❤️

About Buttercup:
It’s a tragic story of loss and grief. We were contacted asking if we could help with this girl her name is Buttercup and her mom loved her dearly.
A few weeks ago her mom was killed in a car accident leaving Butttercup behind. The family told us that Buttercup is dog aggressive so none of them could take her home as they all had dogs of their own. They needed time to grieve and to think and in the meantime Buttercup stayed at home and they would come and care for her. Every day Buttercup would sit in the window like she always did waiting for her mom to return from work, she never did, and she never would.
Yesterday the family drove her to Emma at the sanctuary and said goodbye. We can only imagine the difficulty this family has faced and suffered with and fr us its now our responsibility to try and bring closure and a new home for Buttercup to bring some peace to her mama.
Buttercup was born on 8/4/14 and she came to us already spayed. We will of course assess her ourselves to see how she will do with other dogs but for now she just needs some time to relax and have someone with her all the time and let us get to know her to see what kind of home she needs.
I want to speak to the family for a moment when I say we are so terribly sorry for your loss and thank you for trusting us with this girl, we will do everything in our power to find the perfect spot for her.
