Latest Update:

Mary Jones has fostered for us for years now. In addition to fostering countless dogs for us and helping with transport on many others, she has adopted from Dog Ranch Rescue a total of 4 times. We first met her a few years back when she adopted for the first time from us with the incredibly sweet Mallory. Mallory was sold at a puppy mill auction with a very, very bad heart at just 9 months old. She had severe stenosis and we knew she wouldn’t have a long life. Mary was undeterred and welcome Mallory into her life. She then adopted another bear that we called Cello and she named her Penny, she was a very shy incredibly sweet perfect bear with a halo hanging firmly from her head. Next up she adopted Pepper who was a bordeaux that was left behind at another boarding facility by her owner because she had seizures and he didn’t want to care for her anymore. Once again Mary was undeterred and as you can see she Mary had the Bordeaux bug that had bitten her squarely between the eyes. We then rescued the one and only John Merrick with a very rare skin condition that caused him to grow excess skin on his face ears and parts of his limbs. We knew it wasn’t solvable, only manageable and of course and little to no interest in anyone adopting him. Mary raised her hand and said I’ll take that boy home and she did. Last year John Merrick suffered an injury to his spine and is now paralyzed but she didn’t bat an eye and continues to care for him in every way that he needs.
Sadly last year just before Covid hit Mallory took a turn with her heart and in the blink of an eye was gone. The silly funny girl that we all loved so much had the short life we knew would happen but it didn’t hurt any less. Last week Mary told us that Penny went out in the back yard and took a nap in the beautiful spring weather and never woke up. Mary went out to call her in and Penny was just gone. No warning, no illness just took a nap and left the world. Mary let us know and we were all just heartbroken.
Poor Pepper was all alone and Mary showed us pic of her laying in the grass where Penny had died and Pepper is just so very sad.
I had a feeling that Mary might be interested in Camille but I wasn’t going to say anything. Mary was the person who went and picked up Camille from her owner down near Houston when they didn’t want her anymore for killing a chicken. Camille came to us covered in skin infection, ear infection, UTI and sadly renal failure.
Adopting a dog like her out is always problematic but we know Mary, her heart is big and filled with love and is undeterred but dogs with health issues or even a bleak prognosis of a shortened life. Sure enough a few days ago Mary told Laura and I that she can’t stop thinking about Camille since she picked her up from her owner and drove her halfway to meet Ricky to bring her to the sanctuary.
You see Camille has a halo too, yes she killed a chicken but that doesn’t even tilt a halo in the slightest, that is a dog being a dog and the majority of my own would kill a chicken.
Mary said she wanted to think about it a little bit and in a couple days she said I will be there on Saturday to take this sweet girl home. Hopefully she can help heal Peppers heart a little too.
When Mary came it seemed Camille did remember her, and she jumped up on the office window with me standing by to look out at Mary’s car in the parking lot as if to confirm. When it came time to go she eagerly walked out to the car and never looked back, she tossed her front legs up and I gave her a boost and she was on her way to her new life with Mary, Pepper, and John Merrick.
We love Camille, we love Mary, we love Pepper and we love John and are so happy for all of them.
Yesterday we became aware of this big girl who her owner was wanting to move into a rescue. She is 6 years old, not spayed, her skin is covered in mange and she owned her since she was a puppy. The problem is that she kills chickens and wasn’t allowed to live there anymore. She will go into isolation at the sanctuary until she is seen by Dr. Reno on Friday and see what her skin issue is all about.
Welcome to Dog Ranch Rescue Camille.
UPDATE 4/5/2021
Love this girl so much, always has a halo on her head. She’s still getting a medicated bath every 2 days and doing well on her new food. Camille
UPDATE 4/2/2021
She has a very sad face, she has a lot of skin infection and unfortunately she has kidney disease too. She lost her home because she killed a chicken but she is a sweet girl who still would love to have a new home who will love her regardless of her physical ailments and her desire to kill a chicken. We are hoping that special someone is out there, we’ve done it before and we feel like we can do it again.
Camille
UPDATE 3/23/2021
Her name is Camille, and first and foremost I will tell you she has commanded what we call “gem” status and if you know us at all it’s not a term we throw around lightly. It basically means she is good in every way and carries a little halo around on her head.
Camille was surrendered by her family who had her from the time she was 6 weeks old. What we know about her history medically is she had puppies in 2018, she has terribly infected skin and sadly we have discovered that she is in kidney failure. What we don’t know is how long she has been in kidney failure, has she been like this her whole life? or is this something new. We don’t have medical history that shows bloodwork so we can never know. We will be switching her over to a kidney diet and I will be getting a urine sample in the morning to give us more information. Camille was surrendered because she was killing the chickens, which from my perspective is a pretty normal dog behavior, I honestly think all of my dogs would kill a chicken but if she lived somewhere where they don’t separate dogs from fowl then I guess she had to go and go she did.
Camille is 6 years old and will be a special needs do, we are hoping we can find a family who will open their home and their heart to her in spite of her medical condition. We have done it before and we feel like the village can do it again so that is what we will hope for. No chickens free roaming allowed in a future home.
Camille will be ready soon but we can go ahead and share her now.
