The stars aligned for our little girl Chomper when her adopters came to pick her up.
Kurt and Rita Arnould (who adopted Bell Bottom) reached out to me a few weeks ago and wanted to adopt our special needs girl. The fact that she might have to wear pants forever did not deter them. Rita had seen her when she originally came to the rescue in December and has been following her story ever since. Zena (fka Bell Bottom) has made it known that Kurt is her person. Rita said she had lots of love to give to a special needs dog and she wanted Chomper.
They live in Garland and Kurt works from home. Rita works part-time 3 days a week. They currently have a 16 yr old dachshund named Zara, an Australian cattle dog named Ziffel, a lab mix named Charlie and of course a dachshund named Zena (fka Bell Bottom). They enjoy daily walks with their dogs and long weekend trips with them in their RV.
We are so lucky to have repeat adopters like Kurt and Rita that are willing to take a special needs dog and give her the life she was meant to have. They haven’t decided on a name yet but will let us know.
I’ll miss this little girl.. we had a hard 3 weeks after her surgery but we made it and I just love her. I am so happy she’s going to have a home of her own with two such special people.
About Chomper:
This little pup came to us with a completely urine scalded vulva, she clearly has a big issue that needs to be addressed by our specialists.
UPDATE
Chomper came to the Sawyer ranch Thursday afternoon, a couple days after her surgery to try and correct her ureters to drain properly into her bladder. She was understandably nervous and scared. Thursday and Friday were a challenge. Not only is she recovering from a major surgery but she also has Giardia. The poor pup can’t win. She does not want to be enclosed in a pen or crate … she’s a puppy. She’s very vocal.
Major diarrhea started right away and lasted until after 10. In between that she was continually peeing. Think I changed her blankets and pee pads at least every hour.. lots of laundry. The main thing is to keep her clean, dry and not let her eat any poop. With Giardia you always have to wipe feet, tail butt and pick everything up right away.
Saturday is a brighter day. She has been waiting for me to come get her and take her outside to poop (her vocals step up a notch FM is learning) She still pees a lot but she is on prednisone and is drinking a lot. Sometimes she postures on the pee pads/ or outside and will pee for me, other times she might be just sitting on her blankets and then they’re wet.
Chomper is a very sweet girl and just wants to please. She loves her nylabones and all kinds of stuffed toys. She wants to run and play and being on restricted activity for 3 weeks will be hard for her.
