Sex: Male
Breed: Dogue de Bordeaux
Weight: 87 pounds
Current Location: Texas
Adoption Date: September 7, 2022
Adopted by: Jake Warren
Latest Update:

It’s finally Deku’s adoption day! Jake Warren and his sister Ella came by to pick him up from the ranch this afternoon. Deku and his brothers have been through the ringer this year with seemingly endless medical care, but he’s finally healthy and has a brand new home that could not be more excited for him. Jake’s family runs the Veterinary Eye Institute where Deku had his entropion repaired, and after seeing him there, Jake decided he needed to add this red bear to his life. His new name will be Deek, and as hard as it is to see this boy go, we know he is in the best hands and could not be more excited for him to have a home. Thank you to all of our village members who donated to rebuild this bear! Happy life, Deek!

About Deku:
We were contacted by a family down in Corpus about 3 bears, all boys, all 2 years old and one of them is injured. She’s been trying to get help from a rescue for weeks because she cannot afford to take care of them in any way.

Welcome to Dog Ranch Rescue Deku.

UPDATE 8/24/2022

Deku showing off his new eyes all healed and looking beautiful and most importantly not causing him any pain anymore. Deku does not have a family waiting for him to be finished and that’s a shame because Deku is a winner winner chicken dinner.
If you’ve never owned a Bordeaux, if you want to experience owning a Bordeaux look no further than this boy with an impeccable easy going classic Bordeaux disposition.

UPDATE 8/17/2022

These boys  have been with us for the longest time and they are great boys who need a great home.
We had the three brothers come into the rescue back in May, Mowgli, Broly and Deku. All of them 2 years old, all of them incredibly ill with parasites of absolutely every kind. All of them needing to be neutered, all of them sick with heart worms in their hearts. Broly and Deku both needed surgery to repair their painful eyes from entropian.
Mowgli found his home and was adopted a couple of weeks ago, leaving his brothers behind.

Broly and Deku are both very mild quiet boys who get along well with all of the dogs they see daily at the ranch. We have so many Bordeaux’s that need homes but we have to tackle them one at a time, as individuals with different needs and types of homes.

UPDATE 8/12/2022

Handsome boy Deku is finally almost all the way vetted. He and his brothers took us nearly 5 months to get them there. Deku has had eye surgery, been neutered and just has HW treatment left. He is one of a dozen Bordeaux’s in our rescue that do not have a forever family waiting for them

UPDATE 6/8/2022

Broly
Deku
Mowgli
It’s a serious challenge to get these three bear brothers healthy. They are so sick from parasites that we can’t even begin to think about neutering them. Fleas, various kinds of worms, ear mites, and heartworms have ravaged their bodies. They are anemic, have low red blood cell counts and albumin and all we can do is keep nurturing them with good food and vitamin and iron supplements to get them healthy enough for surgery. All of them are sick with heartworms and they continue to attack their bodies while we try and get them strong enough for the medicine they need to kill the heartworms.
They are young boys only two years old so we feel confident we will get them there but it’s been a challenge for sure.

None of these boys have any applications for them which is a shame. They are sweethearts and deserve a loving family of their own when they are ready.

UPDATE 5/14/2022

All of these boys were just covered in fleas and the scrubbing to get them free of external parasites began immediately.
The attack now is on internal parasites, tapeworm that is caused by fleas, ear mites and I’m sure their fecals will present with many other types of worms.
Obviously the worst parasite of all is heartworm, and dogs living in south Texas with no protection for heartworms and mosquitos being prevalent and unable to afford preventative leads us with these big boys sick with heartworms.
On top of all of that, they have yeast infections, bacterial infections and at least for now we know 2 of them have entropian and will need to have surgery to correct their eye lids to not cause pain or discomfort.
