We are always sad when one of our rescues is returned, but it is compounded when they are returned for not getting along with one dog in the home and know that the path forward is to find an only dog home. They truly are like trying to find a needle in a haystack. Fiona’s family was devastated to lose her, emotions were running high but they did the right thing and then we went to work to try and rectify this situation for all involved.

Today we welcomed Matt and Julie Christensen from Richardson Texas to take this sweet girl home. They have owned and English and a Frenchie in the past but never more than one dog at a time, just what Fiona needed. They said it’s been a few years since they had a dog but they were excited to have her. Fiona was a little shy with meeting them at first but with a few pill pockets as treats she warmed up quickly. Matt wants to all her Silly and Julie wants to call her Hillie so it will probably be both, they said their dogs always have multiple names, and I know we can all relate to that.

We are so happy for all of them, happy to see Fiona go back into a loving home where she very much belongs, happy for her new family and happy for her old family to feel at peace that it all worked out.

About Fiona:

She was with the rescue 2 years ago, you might remember her story. She was a stray Bordeaux that Duck Team 6 had tried to catch for many weeks. Once she was caught she came into our rescue, we called her Fiona, she was adopted and named Tillie. She lived with multiple dogs and a mom and dad who love her dearly.

The issue began a few weeks ago, in a state of excitement at their home with a contractor looking in the window and knocking on it a dog fight ensued, Tillie and the French bulldog in the home engaged, they both fought each other, thankfully only a minor wound occurred, but a pattern then developed and anytime excitement came the response was similar but the fighting got worse.

Unfortunately this occurred 4 or 5 times and the family reached out for help, we inserted Aaron Stewart into the conversation and he expressed what we felt, this could not be solved. Contrary to what many people will tell you, contrary to what some people just naturally think, a break like this in pack dynamics many times cannot be rectified, the risk is always there, no matter what.

The advice given was to rehome Fiona/Tillie, the other option was to keep them apart for the rest of their lives, many people do this, I personally know a few but we all know the risks, we all know its a juggle and mistakes could be made and someone gets hurt.

The owners were overcome with grief and initially pushed back and said they simply could not let her go, we gave them time to think about it and once they did they realized they didn’t have an option, they needed peace, and safety for all of the dogs in the home including Fiona/Tillie.

They are devastated, they have been dog owners all of their lives, followed the rescue for years and would never have dreamed that they would be in this situation. As I explained to them, they did nothing wrong, dogs are individuals, they can be quirky, why does this happen after your dogs have lived in harmony for 2 years. The answer is we don’t know, nobody knows, but it has happened and decisions need to be made on what is best for all involved.

They returned her a few days ago, I cannot even describe the grief and tears, they love this dog, they love all of their dogs but here she is finding herself back in need of a new home.

We will only place Tillie in a home with no other dogs, she is currently at the ranch with 50 other dogs and she is described as a wallflower, just very quiet and sweet, she is an absolutely precious loving dog but a situation occurred and choices were made in the heat of excitement and a pattern then developed.

I will absolutely not tolerate on negative comment about these owners, not one. They had to do what was best for all involved and we will find this sweet, sweet girl a new family that will love her just as much, but without any other dogs for this to occur again. Fiona/Tillie is about 4 years old, she is in good health, she is all vetted and has been cared for by a family who loves her very much.

She is available for immediate placement and nothing would heal everyones hearts faster than finding one very soon. Only dog homes are few and far between, we all know that, but it is what we must do even though she was fine with all of the other dogs in the home, and fine at the ranch we will not take a chance for something to go south. We do not know how she is with cats but are happy to cat test for someone inquiring.
