Adopted by: Patty and Chris
Our wonderful volunteer, Linda, fostered as well as facilitated Gretel’s adoption for us and here is what Gretel stole my heart from the beginning, and I thought she was going to be the most difficult foster for me to give up yet. But leave it to Laura Burr Galloway to pick the perfect home.
Patty and Chris from Lucas Texas are amazing, and Chris was so very good with her from the second they met. They have a small farm and doggie siblings for her to play with. They also have horses and goats, and plenty of room for her to run and play. Patty grew up fostering and adopting as her mom is a vet, and Chris has ALWAYS wanted a German Shepherd. She will also get to grow up with their little 4 month old baby girl.
Chris laid eyes on Gretel and said “She is beautiful..” Her new name will be Lexi, and she is settling in well. She has been great pottying outside, exploring the barn, and playing fetch. Happy life Lexi girl, you are truly special!
Gretel is one of three Shepherd-mix puppies that came into the Houston shelter as strays in excruciating physical condition. One of the babies was almost dead so the shelter compassionately euthanized him to end his suffering.
The two 13 week-old brother and sister, we were told, were covered in maggots, open sores, covered in demodex, and that the odor coming from them was horrific. We immediately tagged them and our Village volunteers jumped into action to transport them to an ER vet and ultimately to Dr. D.
There will be no more suffering for these babies. They are on the road to good health and living happily with foster Mom, Linda. They enjoy being outside and playing ball, and they are learning just how a happy puppy should live.
