UPDATE 2/9/2022
Millie put a call out for help with Jace. This little man has been in recovery for such a very long time and he needed to get his beans out in a big way. Thankfully the ranch is just what he needed and is having a great time.
UPDATE 2/7/2022
Foster mom Millie has done such a fantastic job with Jace and felt he was ready to join the pack. He was a sweet and shy guy at first but once he met the other dogs he showed us that 3 legged dogs can do just as well as anyone else.
UPDATE 2/2/2022
Jace’s energy has multiplied ten fold …. He wants to run and play every chance he gets. He gets so excited at dinner time that his body just goes in all directions … almost dance like.. he’s a very goofy guy. Eating is definitely his favorite thing but number two favorite thing is hard to pick.. toys or blankets… it’s a hard decision he loves them both.
UPDATE 1/20/2022
Jace is looking good now. Next step is removing those little dangling peaches. He is scheduled for surgery next week where he will be given the clotting medicine ahead of time, and our surgeons will be neutering him. Here’s to hoping its an uneventful surgery so he can head off to his forever life with a family that has been waiting for him for a long time.
UPDATE 1/10/2022
He’s feeling great …has found his voice and loves to do 3-legged zoomies around the yard.
UPDATE 12/27/2021
Day by day we seem to be out of the woods with Jace. Millie reports he is doing well, no more seeping of blood and he is bright and eating and resting well.
UPDATE 12/22/2021
Once again how did he chew his foot off and it stopped bleeding?, for goodness sake, its just terrible…Millie went to the ER yesterday and retrieved this little man to take him home, fingers crossed we are over the hump…
UPDATE 12/18/2021
Jace is the little guy from the valley who got caught up in a tether and chewed his foot off, where we had to amputate what was left. He is a Doberman so there is always the concern of Von Williebrands disease, he was tested for a clot time before surgery and everything looked okay but Millie has had nothing but problems post surgery, he just isn’t healing, and he keeps seeping blood that she can get stopped with pressure and if he’s lying down he’s okay, but when he gets up the bleeding begins again. We have been concerned and in touch with the surgeons the whole time. We had Millie let her vet run the Von Williebrands test that takes several days to get back, well last night he started bleeding again and the test results finally came back today that he is positive for Von Williebrands and what that means is they have a clotting disorder. We have had a couple of our rescues with it, always a Doberman and when we knew they had it and needed surgery there is a special plasma they order before surgery to help them clot properly. We didn’t think we had an issue ahead of time with Jace because his clotting test seemed okay but clearly its not. I told millie to take him to the ER, they can keep him quiet and still if need be, and let them and the surgeons come up with a plan going forward to try and help his blood clot and for goodness sake get this to heal. It has been 18 days since the amputation and we are still not at a place of healing with the incision closing. I cannot for the life of me imagine how he chewed his foot off and somehow the bleeding stopped on that. Lordy what this little man has been through is terrible, and thank goodness he has had Millie to foster him because you just don’t get any better and more detailed oriented than Millie.
UPDATE 12/9/2021
At 5:30 in the morning Millie called me with Jace bleeding heavily from his incision, she couldn’t tell if he had popped a stitch or not but it took her quite sometime to stop the bleeding. All is well now, pressure applied, and a big bandage over it. These amputations don’t come without complications, it’s a very big surgery and will take some time to get all healed and recovered. He could not be in better hands than Millie’s and we are so grateful to have her on our team.
UPDATE 12/3/2021
Jace has had his surgery and got that nasty rotten leg off. He will feel so much better and is now off to a good start for recovery. Millie has taken him home to give him lots of rest and TLC.
UPDATE 12/1/2021
Mr. Ricky Barnes drove to Millie’s early this morning to pick up Jace to see our surgeons. I just spoke to Dr. Wilkins and he said this leg for sure needs to come off, so that will be taking place this morning. This boy needs a fresh start with life and Millie says he is just absolutely this sweetest little man and we will give him the best possible outcome moving forward.
UPDATE 11/28/2021
He is a really sweet boy. He has peed and pooped for me outside today…Has taken his medicine including ear medicine like a pro and wags his tail while he eats (he’s eating 3 times a day). My heart just breaks for him…. No one deserves this”
