Have you ever shared a post? Have you ever talked to your friends and/or family about a cute/sweet/silly/sad/fun dog you saw on the internet? On the flipside, have you ever seen a post that a friend or family member shared or listened to someone gush about a dog they saw on the internet? These are the things that happen that find wonderful dogs homes and, sometimes, without these things, people don’t even know “their dog” is out there.
Such is the case with Jan Levinson. Back in January, a group of Bordeaux’s were surrendered by, you guessed it, an irresponsible breeder. She lived her days in a dog run with her sister, Pam Beesley, where they suffered from littermate syndrome and shied away from humans. I don’t blame her for this though considering she’d likely never known kindness from humans (do better people!).
At the Sanctuary, she was very stressed and didn’t eat well. She started to lose weight and came to my house. With the help of medication, she started to eat more, and her silliness started to come through a bit. She began engaging with our dogs, zoom around the backyard and buck like a wild bronco! While these moments were few and far between, we still rejoiced when we saw them. It was apparent, though, that Jan would need a very special home with very special people who would love her exactly where she is and not expect too much from her.
Enter: a village member! One of the lovely people in this far-reaching network shared a post about Jan, which was seen by their cousins, Joey and Babs Martin of Sunset, TX. See, Joey and Babs didn’t follow Lone Star’s page so they never would have known about this special girl, “their dog”, without our lovely village member’s shared post. Joey and Babs have a soft spot for big read bears. Their girl Zoey has been with them her whole life and is also a very shy girl, nervous of people, but they don’t care. It makes no difference to them, and they love her exactly where she is and, when they saw Jan, they knew they could do the same for her.
This past weekend, I drove Jan out to her new home to meet her new mama, daddy, her very own little girl who was so sweet and gentle with her, fur sisters Zoey and Daisy and fur brother Pikachu. Everyone got along great and, even though she was shy and nervous, Joey and Babs didn’t care, they opened their hearts and home and decided that she would stay. Along with her new family, she gained a new name: Boo.
Joey and Babs have alternating work schedules, so the dogs aren’t left home alone for long. They live on 16 acres out in the country with cows and a garden. It’s an idyllic life for a quiet, gentle girl like Boo and I’m sure she’ll be happy to live her forever there with the people who love her exactly where she is.
About Jan Levinson:
Breeder release dogs, these are mill dogs who have never lived their lives as a pet.
Jan and her sister are in the rescue. both born on 1/28/17
For those of you that follow our rescue that are really shut down, Jan falls in that category. She was rescued with her sister from living their lives in a dog run as commercial breeding dogs. Suffering from littermate syndrome Jan struggles with human kindness, she’s fine around dogs and of course they help with her rehabilitation. Jan has been moved to Ana’s house where they are very familiar with this behavior.
