About Katy Perry:
- – Katy was another lucky dog rescued from life in a puppy mill. At only 2 years old, she is experiencing some pretty involved medical issues that we are working to figure out, related to her urogenital system. At this point our specialists are all hands-on deck to see what we can do to improve her situation. If you asked Katy, she would tell you that life has never been better! She gets to hang out with people and dog friends all day, eats yummy food, and then sleeps on her comfy bed all night long. She is full of silly personality and doesn’t miss a beat. Make sure you follow along to see her story; we believe we will have this girl feeling better in no time.

So let’s talk about Katy Perry, she was sold at puppy mill auction and as soon as she arrived we could see her whole back end stained with urine. She clearly had a problem that of course was never addressed by a mill owner, why would they care of she leaks pee? They wouldn’t..
We had an ultrasound done, a CT done looking for an ectopic ureter, what that mens is one or both of her ureters don’t line up to empty into the bladder properly. We have had a few dogs like this and there is a surgery to try and correct it.
Katy Perry does not have ectopic ureters, she was born with a tiny malformed kidney so her body is functioning with just one. What she has been diagnosed with is a pelvic bladder, what that means is she was born with her bladder seated incorrectly, her urethra is shorter and therefore she leaks urine, there is no surgery to correct this, they do offer collagen injections every 6 to 12 months that would require a cystoscopy to inject the collagen at a cost of 3 to 5,000, which of course is out of the question.
The only thing to try is Proin which helps the sphinchter tighten to try and keep the urine from leaking. We have no idea if this will work or even help for that matter.
Katy is only 2 years old and will most likely always have this issue and what that means is she only has a chance of being adopted by a special needs adopter who will love her anyway and keep her in a diaper, and suspenders like Wes does with Boo Boo every day of her life.
Sounds easy but its not, these adopters are few and far between but all we can do is try and wait…
