Adopted by: Sharon McCurdy
Liz Flores was adopted today by Sharon McCurdy of Van Alstyne, TX. Sharon is retired and an avid quilter. She’s been on the look out for a special companion for quite some time and when she saw the picture and write up about Liz she knew she was the one. Sharon has no doubt that she’ll be able to give her a loving home and will have the patience Liz needs to help her come out of her shell. You can’t see it in the picture but Sharon has been saving the t-shirt she’s wearing for over a year just for this day. It says “ A Woman can’t survive on sewing alone she also needs a dog!” Today Sharon and Daisy (new name) have become a family. Can’t wait to see her progress on the Happy Tails page… love ya little one. You’re going to have a great life!About Liz Flores:
#317 is a female Maltese born on 11/30/2012. She is also a tiny little girl who will get a nice bath and a grooming by Liz Ross and then she will go to foster with Millie. Welcome to Liz Flores. Liz is a registered nurse in the ER and contracted the COVID-19 virus on the job.
This little girl Miss Liz Flores spent her first week frozen in fear.. she cowered whenever I went to pick her up and once I had her in my arms her legs and paws were rigid with fright( back leg usually digging into my side, all while panting).
She did not seem to understand the concept of doing her business outside.. spent her time sitting in a far corner panting. I just kept telling myself to give her time to decompress, get to know me (the person who was feeding her) and our schedule…. allow her time to feel safe.
We starting turning a corner Sunday with her taking one step toward me and sniffing my hand as I put her bowl in front of her. Tuesday I noticed that her legs were not as rigid. I could see her with my camera from the kitchen and she had picked up a toy and was carrying it around. Thursday we went out in the side yard to meet the other dogs.
She loves playing with them and she comes alive! Friday morning when I picked her up she actually turned her head into my neck and snuggled..❤️ Lizzy (aka Liz Flores) prefers to eat in the evening but wil occasionally eat breakfast. ( She has the cutest little howl when hungry) She will potty outside if playing with the others otherwise she is using pee pads.
She sleeps through the night in her crate (I do have a pee pad on one end that she’ll use if needed). She still has a long way to go.. still very much afraid ..panics in the kitchen and pants continuously ….needs a leash on at all times when out of her enclosure or you’ll never catch her…but the light is on in those beautiful eyes and all she needs is love, time and patience.
