About Margot Barbie:
- Margot Barbie was pulled from the Ft. Worth Shelter afer 2 months of residency, and had found herself on the euthanasia list at only 2 years old. She is a shy girl at first, but comes out of her shell quickly and is friendly with people. She currently has a lot of fear when meeting dogs, and we are looking forward to exercising her brain and working through these roadblocks. She would also thrive as the only dog in the home, as she is extremely engaged with people and LOVES to play, run, sit, stay, etc. Margot has had a very rough start, but I am grateful that she is in the right place to take on her future. She is as smart as a whip and is a true German Shepherd. Margot will require someone with an open heart willing to continue the work in order to socialize and train her so that she can be her best self.
UPDATE*
I have to tell you a little story about Margot Barbie but first I need to tell you that Emma always wants to rescue this breed and when we do she tends to go all mama bear on them. You see German Shepherds can be a challenge sometimes, too intelligent, sometimes reactive, sometimes neurotic, always need a leader for an owner and a job to keep their kind healthy.
When Margot Barbie came out of isolation she displayed lots of freaky behavior with other dogs, recoiling backwards in terror, barking at them bluffing at them. Emma wanted to take it real slow because she doesn’t want the Shepherd she rescued to fail, and not display herself in an adoptable fashion. Once again mama bear…
I told her this girl needs to go to the ranch, let her meet some dogs and then leash off, a dog like this needs to be put into the group and let her figure out how to behave normally, and let the other dogs show her she has nothing to be afraid of. You see all of this behavior, this bluff, is all fear, and it has absolutely nothing aggressive behind it, but she has to figure it out on her own.
Yesterday she was brought to the ranch and Eva took her out into the group, you will see her bluff a dog here or there, but in about 10 minutes time the leash was off, she was let loose and she never looked back. She never bluffed again, she never gave ugly language, she just learned how to dog thanks to 50 other dogs in 10 minutes time. Travis told Emma she is loose and completely normal, and Emma said “damn these dogs just try and stress me out” we all laughed and laughed and here we are with Margot Barbie now in a pack and doing just great.
