Terrible situation and they will be safe very soon…
Marion has been staying at foster mom Christi’s but she had to go out of town, so we told her to bring that sweet girl to us. We are still working out GI issues for her with some test results pending at Texas A & M but she has a mama who is anxiously waiting to take her home.
Thank goodness Marion is feeling much better and is eating well now. She’s got a lot of weight to catch up on but foster mom Christi has figured out what this picky girl who’s had such a hard time in her life likes to eat. I’m so happy this sweet girl is finally in a foster home where she needed to be and Christi can’t express enough just how lovely this lady bear is.
Marion checking in! I had a little adventure this week. I was not feeling well and refused to eat so I got all checked out and got some new meds and now I think canned GI and canned recovery is amazing! I wear my lady pants all the time cause I am in heat. I’m really good about letting foster mom and dad put them on me. Foster dad says I remind him a lot of Callie, one of the permanent doggies in this casa. Adios for now!
She spent a couple of days with Dr. Reno on fluids and meds and she is feeling better now and staying with foster mom Christi which makes her very happy to be staying in a home where she can be spoiled.
It makes me happy to see her so content and sleeping in a home as that is something she very much loves.
Thankfully Marion has a family waiting for her but she has an issue with her platelets that we are working through, she came with ehrlichia and we are trying to get her past that but we are running some tests now to see if her large platelets are due to thrombocytopenia or if she may have an auto immune issue.
She ate about a cup of dry food this morning and now off to the vet!
Mama Marion, tested positive for ehrlichia which is a tick borne illness. She had lots of them on her while living on the streets and was found taking up a safe spot in a warehouse with her babies Richie and Joanie. Her pups have not been doing well, so sick with parasites and very low albumin and hematocrit. Dr. Reno had us give them canned recovery which is a very high calorie dog food for instances like this. Their appetite has been poor and she said if we cannot get them to eat they will need to be hospitalized and transfused. Happily the captains offered them that food and they ate it all up and are doing better and better each day. All three of them are very lucky to be alive and it’s wonderful to see them safe, clean and on the road to recovery.
The story is this mama dog was found in a warehouse in Laredo with her two pups. As you can see by her condition she kept these babies alive by nursing them at the expense of her own body. All of them covered in ticks and fleas and the puppies bellies are just full of worms. They will need lots of various worming medications as we know there are many kinds in there. All of them will be first on the list to see Dr. Reno first thing tomorrow morning, in the meantime they are safe, clean and tucked into the isolation room at the sanctuary
