Gather round, I’d like to tell you a little story, Chandra Reed has been a volunteer for our rescue for quite some time and has helped acquire and negotiate the freedom of many of our rescues. If you’ve been with our page for a while you might remember that she was the first home for Big Earl. It did not work out because we learned that Big Earl while getting along with dogs at the Ranch would not share his home with people he loved.

Chandra was heartbroken but Big Earl moved on to the perfect life he has today. You might also remember that Chandra and her husband J.D. owned and loved Wally and Poops the Bordeaux’s with the faces that made us laugh everytime we looked at them.

The sad news is that Chandra and J.D. lost both Wally and Poops this year from illness and they had adopted another Bordeaux Hudson who became very, very aggressive with them both, and with all advice from everyone, they peacefully released him from whatever demons he had.

In addition to losing 3 Bordeaux’s this year Chandra has been very ill with Lupus and spends a great deal of time just needing to rest or in the hospital with treatment.

Chandra was heartsick with her losses and depressed with her illness. She spoke to me and was wanting to open her heart to a Frenchie and Laura and I were both looking for who might be a good fit for her and J.D.

Mona came from the Mooie mill auction and she was by far the quietest sweetest girl, but she was shut down and needed time. We sent her to a foster home to gain some confidence without being overwhelmed at the Ranch and foster mom Danielle told us that Mona was very affectionate and all Mona wanted to do is lay in a bed and sleep with someone all day long…..

The bells went off and it seemed that Mona would be exactly what Chandra could use, a therapy dog if you will. What feels better when you’re not feeling well, and need to lay down than a dog who wants nothing more than to snuggle with you for however long you want to?

Mona was on the road to Chandra and J.D. yesterday in Tennessee and this morning Chandra sent me these pictures. Chandra also told me a little bit about how J.D. was feeling since losing Wally, Poops and Hudson.

He told her that he was never going to love another dog again because he just couldn’t take it. J.D. has had a very tough life, he was adopted with no family to speak of, he served several tours in Afghanistan and Korea and has seen some unspeakable things. Chandra said he in essence most of the time is feelingless, except for her and his children. Losing Poops nearly destroyed him and she never thought he would love another dog again.

This morning he rolled over and she captured this photo, Chandra told me when he rolled over and told Chandra that he loved this girl she almost cried.

When she told me this story I almost cried too, I asked her if it was okay for me to share this personal story and she said yes.

About Mona:

Mona is just a one year old, she’s a little on the chunky side and is a pretty shy girl. She is doing well in her foster home and getting ready to get her vetting underway.
