Mr Big

Adopted!
New Name:
Age: Adult
Sex: Male
Breed: French Bulldog
Weight: 36.2 pounds
Current Location: Antioch, CA
Adoption Date: April 30, 2021
Adopted by: Mary Lou and Billy Maher
Latest Update:
Mary Lou Maher flew in from Antioch, CA this afternoon to adopt our Mr Big. I do believe it was love at first sight. Mary Lou and her husband, Billy, are big SF Giants fans and from the looks of it Mr Big will be too! BOO Giants….😂
He has a new matching harness, leash and tag all sporting the Giants logo! Billy stayed at home with Big’s new siblings .. a large Frenchie, a large Boston Terrier and a very small Pomeranian mix… he’s going to fit right in and be spoiled rotten.
Shortly after heading out for the four day car ride home, Mary Lou sent us a picture of Mr Big sleeping soundly next to her as she was driving. (Did I mention they are keeping his name.)
Love you Big Guy. Have a great life! We’ll see you on the Happy Tails page!
About Mr Big:
This boy was born on 10/18/13 which makes him the oldest French Bulldog that was auctioned off yesterday.
Formerly # 129

Welcome to your new life Mr. Big

UPDATE 4/15/2021
Millie giving us a great update on Mr. Big , we are looking for a home for this handsome dude as the one he had has backed out.

“Just look at handsome Mr Big! He’s about 7 1/2 yrs old and a strapping 36.2 lbs.. all muscle (don’t tell him he’s a senior) He loves to chew Nyla bones and play with the other dogs. He can run as fast as lightning! Super dog!! Big just got a great check up from the eye specialist and his ulcer has healed and will only need 1 eye drop 2x’s a day in both eyes along with occasional checkups… no big deal, especially if he can have a little piece of chicken afterwards! He sleeps all night in his crate and never has an accident..house training during the day is going great and he seldom has an accident inside (unless foster mom gets distracted and doesn’t pay attention to him). Big can get a little excited at times when people come over and meeting them outside helps to calm him down. This sweet velcro energetic senior will make someone a great companion!!!❤️❤️”

UPDATE 4/6/2021
We haven’t had an update on Mr. Big for a while so I’ll do that now. First of all his eye is doing well with recovery well underway. We had an emergency with his last week with his testicles becoming infected and he was rushed to surgery to neuter him very quickly to solve the issue. Mr. Big was so difficult to get eye drops in his eye when he first came but Millie has ironed all of those wrinkles out now and sent us a little update on how he feels about that now:
“It’s hard work getting my eye drops .. you have to wait 5 min in between each one and a guy can barely stay awake… it was a long day .. eye drops.. watch foster mom clean the stalls.. eye drops.. watch foster mom weed.. eye drops… well you get the idea.”

Mr Big

UPDATE 3/1/2021
Mr. Big spent the weekend in the hospital with eye meds administered every 2 hours around the clock and it appears that this will save his eye. His meds have now been dropped down to every 4 hours. Millie has gone to pick him up and will take him home to foster him and as always take great care of dogs with medical issues. She said he is on 5 different medications and she will pick up where the ER team left off.
Thankfully he will keep this eye and we ended up with lots of applications too 😊

All good news for Mr. Big…

UPDATE 2/26/2021

Mr. Big has been mostly ignored with a scant amount of applications. He is a big Frenchie and sadly that makes them less desirable. Yesterday we had a catastrophe with his eye and Ricky had to rush him to the ER and they called in the Veterinary Eye Institute doctors to come and look at him last night. In the blink of an eye he has an ulcer that is infected and now he needs eye meds every 2 hours to try and save his eye. This is exactly what happened to Bea and we were not able to save it.
We worry that him losing an eye and being a big Frenchie will make it even harder to find a home that will want him. He remains in the ER and we are reaching out to Millie to see if she might foster him because caring for a dog with eye medication that needs to be instilled every 2 hours is a big job and the volunteers at the sanctuary nor us at the ranch are able to do that.
We are hoping to save this eye and will do everything possible to save it.
