Latest Update:
When Anne Marie Knop saw the very first picture of Nymeria it was love at first sight. She hoped the eye would heal but it wouldn’t make a difference .. Nymeria spoke to her heart and she knew instantly she wanted to adopt her. Anne Marie had previously adopted DRR Clifton Brown (now Augie).. he’s an energetic, spunky Yorkie Poo that will be the perfect companion for Nymeria. Anne Marie came by to meet Nymeria when she still had her fixator on and they became friends.. fast forward to this morning when she drove up from Dallas to pick her up. Nymeria instantly remembered her and was so excited every inch of her was wiggling while giving her kisses. It touched my heart because I knew we had the perfect fit.
Nymeria’s new name will be Aspen. Her new mom works from home and has lots of dog experience to keep this little girl in line. There will also be lots of walks/runs in her future plus all kinds of new and exciting challenges with plenty of mental stimulation. I can’t wait to see what she’s capable of learning.
You’re going to have a great life Aspen
About Nymeria:
Once again Dr. Murray called from the ER asking if we could rescue this pup that was surrendered to the ER.
She is only 8 weeks old and was attacked by another dog, breaking her jaw and injuring her eye. We simply couldn’t take her without asking if Millie could foster her, not knowing what she would need but clearly a medical foster is what we had to have.
I spoke with Dr. Thompson this morning and they first wanted to attempt a soft muzzle as a splint for 10 to 14 days because her jaw is very soft and will heal very quickly but unfortunately the soft muzzle wouldn’t fit properly. The swelling was just too severe so we had no choice but to take her to surgery and put in a fixator that will stay for the same period of time, 10 to 14 days and hopefully we can get this jaw aligned and healed and remove the fixator as quickly as possible allowing her to grow normally. We do not know the extent of her eye injury at this time, the swelling is too significant and we will wait on that while we focus on the jaw and wait for swelling to come down.
She will go to surgery today and hopefully will go home to Millie tomorrow.

UPDATE 8/24/2021

Millie sending us an update on Nymeria:

Nymeria is doing really well. She lets me clean her fixator, takes her medicine like a good girl and is actually pretty good about going outside to do her business.. you just have to move quick when she alerts you with a bark. Her right eye opens more everyday and she now has two beautiful blue eyes. (Still a little swelling but looks good.) She is eating puppy mush three times a day and for a treat she gets a little wet puppy food on my finger. (BTW She sits very pretty for her treats) Nymeria can not chew anything … no kibble, treats, toys etc. With a puppy that can be very hard but she’s making the most of it and being such a good girl. She spent a little time on the back deck this morning then late morning I split my kitchen.. 1/2 for her with nothing down that she could put in her mouth.. the other half for Rosanna who is on restricted activity. (My dogs stayed with Rosanna since that’s where the beds are.) Bring a young puppy Nymeria is not fully vaccinated yet so walking her around the neighborhood is not really an option. She goes on the 30th to have her Jaw rechecked and paws crossed she gets the fixator removed.

UPDATE 8/19/2021

This poor pup and what she has to go through for the next week or so. Millie needs to clean this fixator once a day, she says it’s very tedious and has sharp edges on it. It’s very much necessary and we know it will come off soon but its hard to deal with for this time period. Millie has been working on Nymeria to cooperate at night time for the cleaning, she rocks her in a rocking chair to help her relax and get sleepy to try and get the job done. Millie is a gem and Nymeria is very lucky to have her while she tries to recover from this.

UPDATE 8/17/2021

This poor little pup, such a rough start to be 8 weeks old and attacked by another dog sustaining a broken jaw. Nymeria is on her way home with Millie to rest and recover, we hope she heals quickly and will her able to put this nightmare behind her.
You’re in good hands little pup, Millie will take great care of you.
