Just 4 weeks ago I wrote a post telling all of you how our sweet boy Henry with a bad heart passed away while at the ranch. Henry was a Dog Ranch Rescue Dogue, and Connie Crist was his mama, she also adopted Zena and Frannie from us as well.
She told me after Henry passed that she would want to adopt another Bordeaux in the fall and we all understood, however….Obi came into the rescue, and I knew, I absolutely knew that Obi was precisely the dog she would want, the dog that would fit seamlessly into her pack. Zena likes a companion, Connie wants a male and well, Frannie is a stinker and needs a dog that will tolerate her. You see Frannie carries two knives in each pocket, she is dominant, she is sassy, and she demands respect and space from any dog that lives with her as well as dogs she is with at the ranch.
Frannie is the little French Bulldog, I could not allow myself to not talk to Connie and tell her I know its only been a few weeks since Henry left us, but when the perfect dog is here I must tell you about that. Zena and Frannie came to stay at the ranch a couple of weeks ago, I took Obi out for Connie to meet him, and as we figured Obi is a wonderful boy and connie could see that. She said lets see how Frannie feels about him while they stay together for a couple of weeks while she was out of town. I’ve included a couple of pics of Frannie on the ranch floor with Obi. In one of them he pushed his big bear foot too close to her and she quickly gave him a quick nibble on his toes telling him “don’t bother me big boy” Obi never noticed and kept on snoozing. Precisely what Frannie needs from him.
I sent photos and updates to Connie, and today she took home this great big gentle sweet giant who is a saint..
I always say, when you lose a dog, nobody can tell you the right time to get another dog, that is a very individual decision, you are never replacing a dog, you are opening your heart to a different soul, one to love and who will love you. You never forget the one you lost, and you will never replace them, instead you just love another in a new way.
We love you Henry, your mama loved you Henry, and Obi will help her heart heal and I know that makes you happy too.
We wish them all lots of time to love each other…
About Obi:
we were contacted by the Dogue De Bordeaux rescue about these two Bordeaux’s in Moreno Valley California. They were abandoned in this yard a couple of months ago just the two of them and their friend that happened to be a rooster.
I’m told the elderly neighbors have been feeding them twice a day but they said they are very friendly and just desperate for attention and love, the flies are eating their ears and they need to get the hell out of there. The Dogue De Bordeaux rescue is the nationwide Bordeaux rescue but they are suffering for fosters and the overwhelming demand of dogs in need.
They reached out to us a few days ago to see if we could help but obviously the distance is a huge challenge. We talked about trying to ask Pilots and Paws or any transport company but they require health certificates and the neighbors just cannot manage to get these two to a vet and get that paperwork not even knowing what their vetting needs are.
I told them let me ask the village if they can help and who comes to the rescue to make this rescue transport? none other than Ricky and Terrie Barnes. Her is what we have to do, we will fly Ricky and Terrie into Ontario California, they will rent a van go out to the desert and retrieve these two from this yard they have been trapped in and drive them all the way back to Texas.
