Daily Dose of Pepperoni
… My little Pupperoni met his new mama today. Oneala O’Briant from Lubbock, Texas has been watching this little man since intake day. She could not believe how much he resembled her late Iggy, SIS (see picture) Sis was also deaf and they learned how to navigate 15 years together. She has not chosen a new name for Pepperoni just yet, but promises to share on the Happy Tails page.

He will live with a pack of Sight Hounds; big brother, Zoom 4 1/2 yr. old Whippet, big sister, Rue 3 1/2 yr. old Whippet, & big brother, Bug 1 yr. old Italian Greyhound. This pack loves to play, chase squirrels in the back yard and take long walks. Happy life my little Pepperoni, new mama’s like this is what makes fostering easy.
About Pepperoni:
We need a home for this little dude but before anyone gets excited about adopting a cute puppy its very critical to know what you are looking to take on. This is Pepperoni, he is just a baby but he is completely deaf, doesn’t sound too hard, but here’s the thing you need to understand about what that means for other dogs in the home. This is the info his foster mom has sent to us on the difficulty you have with a deaf puppy.
“Pepperoni would do better with either a very young playful/tolerant dog, or a larger dog that’s very tolerant. He does well with my big dogs, but the other three dogs in my house don’t like him at all. It is constant interference by me because he does not get the verbal warnings that dogs are giving him because he is deaf.
Even when they snap at him, he thinks they are playing. It took my big boxer finally losing his temper and connecting with teeth for him to understand enough is enough. He wasn’t hurt, but that was the only way he got the message.”
Dogs communicate with each other verbally and with their mouths and this guy doesnt take the hint when dogs have had enough with his antics. Some dogs love to play, play, and play some more but many do not and when the warning is given, he doesn’t receive it, so. he needs a very specific home with a dog or dogs that will enjoy him rather than dogs that want to correct him.
