Over three months ago we had this little owner surrender named Stella who had a flare of IVDD and lost her home, she needed time, rest and an excellent foster home and Danielle offered her just that. Stella learned about rules and boundaries and good manners, and most importantly gave her time to recover from her scare. Stella did recover, she never needed any surgery and she is a happy spunky little girl who waited and waited for a new home of her own.

Today that happened, Danielle shares the details with us as she said goodbye to her little foster that she dedicated so much time to.

“Janie Sigler has been a long time Dog Ranch Rescue Village member following the many dogs that have been shared on this page. She watched as each was looking for their forever home. During that time, she also shared Stella’s story trying to help find her a home. Each time, Janie kept being drawn to Stella’s beautiful eyes. But after losing her sweet bulldog Otis several months ago, she wasn’t sure she wanted another dog. However, she kept thinking about the cute little brindle girl who needed a home. Today, Janie picked up Stella and took her to her forever home in Little Rock, Arkansas. She has chosen to keep the name Stella. There will be lots of family and neighbors excited to meet this little girl. Janie is on the Happy Tails page, so hopefully, we will all get to follow along to see Stella getting all the love she could ever want from her very own family! Thank you, Janie, for adopting and enjoy all the Stella kisses and snuggles.”

About Stella:
This girl has a bit of a lengthy history but I’ll try and keep it to a minimum so you get the general idea of it.
She’s a 3 year old very active Frenchie that had a family of her own. She flared up with IVDD a couple of months ago, they took her to the vet and she was given some meds and told to let her rest. The family did that but about a month later she flared up again. The reached out to us for help not sure if they wanted to surrender her or not but they had a lot to think about.
Busy lives active kids, active Frenchie with the potential of becoming paralyzed if this wasn’t managed correctly. We didn’t want her to lose her home so Dog Ranch Rescue paid her emergency bill of about 4,000 to hospitalize her again and let them take her home for a month of crate rest. They did that and over time realized that they just didn’t feel like she could stay with them. She’s delicate, she needs a quiet home not a hectic one, she will most likely always be delicate and she may at some point need surgery on her back. The surgeons don’t like to do this surgery unless it’s absolutely necessary and right now it’s not and it may never be.
The family tearfully decided after all of this that they felt it was best to let her go. She was surrendered to us a couple of days ago, she will immediately be placed on a diet. She’s overweight and that is a no no for any dog but especially for a dog with the propensity of back issues.
We will keep an eye on her, get to know her a little better and then decided what kind of home would be best for her.
UPDATE 7/2/2023
Foster mom Danielle has written us an excellent update on Stella and how she is doing at her house, sadly enough there doesn’t seem to be anyone interested in adopting her due to her having a bout of IVDD that she has completely recovered from without ever needing any surgery.

Here’s what Danielle has offered up for anyone who might be thinking about her:

“Stella (she gets called Stell or Stelly at my house)has been with me for about 7 weeks now so I thought I’d write a post about the changes I’ve seen in her. When she first arrived I would describe her as a bull in a china shop and the annoying hyper little sister that is constantly bugging you (I feel I can say that because I’m the youngest in my family😂). She didn’t know how to patiently wait her turn for her bowl to be placed on the ground, understand she would have to wait her turn for treats instead of getting in her foster sisters’ faces to try to get theirs, and would barrel into her foster sisters in an attempt to play with them. I couldn’t risk of her hurting herself by letting her sleep with us in the bed at night as when we tried she wanted to leap right off of it. She has learned her foster mom’s and foster sisters’ expectations well and now patiently waits her turn for treats, understands her foster sister, Ruby, is much more willing to play with her when she approaches with a downward dog or cute little sassy bark as opposed to running full speed into her, and she has been sleeping in the bed and waiting for foster mom to gently put her on the floor. Stella is a smart girl, who has learned quickly she can still be sassy and have fun, just in a little bit more of a calm way.
She loves people, loves sitting in their laps, taking her toys to them. She gets a 5 star rating from me for being a snuggle bunny at night. Whoever adopts her will be getting a dog that definitely shows you affection daily and unconditional love.”
