Zion happily hopped off with his furever family. The Ginnard’s from Dallas adopted him today. He will live in North Dallas with 3 “littles” to snuggle and love and call his own. If ever a dog deserved a family to call his own, it would be him. They are a hockey family hence his new name will be Hat Trick.

We wish them all a happy life together.

About Zion:

This dog was on our list to take a look at he is listed as 3 years old he was a stray and has been in the shelter since Jan 2nd. He has a substantial scar on his back and has a very injured back leg where he bears absolutely no weight on it. He is a very sweet quiet boy and appears to be very gentle. He was kenneled with another dog and clearly had no issues with others behaviorally. He went to the vet first thing this morning and we will wait to hear what needs to be done with his leg.

UPDATE 4/22/2022

Guess who has never received an application?

It’s exhausting to repeat the same words over and over again, but alas my job is to tell each dog’s story for all the world to hear. This is Zion’s story. He has no interest.

He’s a good boy. He’s been cat tested. He’s good with most dogs at the sanctuary. He’s barking at the two big boys, Dale and Brennan, but they are both intact, so there’s no surprise there. He’s a mixed breed shepherd mix and they are literally a dime a dozen in Texas. The shelters are full of pit mixes and shepherd mixes and they have little hope of finding a home. Zion has the additional setback of only having 3 legs. He doesn’t need any extra strikes against him because he’s got enough already.

UPDATE 4/18/2022

I thought I would update on Zion now that he has fully recovered from having his leg amputated. He is moving well and doing just so very good with the dogs at the sanctuary. He is best friends with big girl Ariel the Bordeaux and they play together beautifully. I’m really hoping that having only 3 legs won’t keep him from getting applications because he’s a very good boy who deserves to find a home of his own.

UPDATE 3/26/2022

Sweet boy Zion had his leg removed and is now on the road to recovery. It will be a huge relief for him to not be dragging this bad leg around.

UPDATE 3/20/2022

This boy will be having that bad leg amputated this week and start the recovery process for that. Like most of the other rescues from the shelters he doesn’t have any applications either. Now he will be a tripod and who knows if that will make it worse with nobody wanting to adopt him. Only time will tell.

UPDATE 2/11/2022

Zion came to us with a dangling back leg. Yesterday, Ricky took him to his appointment to see Dr. Wilkins, our surgeon at DVSC. It’s a complicated case with multiple torn ligaments and we have two options. Option one is surgery to attempt to replace the ligaments and would also require an outside Fixator with the odds being at 50/50 that it would work. The other option is amputation and we feel like that is the only clear option moving forward. Going through a huge surgery in hopes to repair it and caring for an outside fixator with only a 50/50 outlook is just not good logic we feel.

We will be scheduling surgery to have this back leg removed…
