Dijon

Adopted!
New Name:
Age: Young
Sex: Male
Breed: Dogue de Bordeaux
Weight:
Current Location: Albuquerque, NM
Adoption Date: January 3, 2026
Adopted by: Catherine and Randy Hooper
Latest Update:

Catherine and Randy Hooper from Albuquerque, NM have adopted from the rescue multiple times. They recently lost two of their Bordeaux’s very close together, DRR Ruby from cancer and DRR Teague unexpectedly from bloat a week later. Their other DRR dogs include, Mork (English Mastiff), Jeffy G (Bordeaux), Jace (Doberman), Xena (fka Sandy Cheeks), and Chico (fka Saguaro). The family lives on 5 acres, giving their dogs plenty of room to run and play. They reached out about adopting Dijon, who you may recall, was returned to the rescue a few weeks ago due to being too scared. He is a young boy, maybe a year or so old, who found himself in a shelter, and will need lots of patience to bring him out of his shell. The Hooper’s are very experienced dog owners and are up to the challenge. They also were interested in adopting Radar but the unimaginable happened and Radar needed to cross the rainbow bridge. The family talked it over and still wanted to give a puppy a home. After some discussion, it was decided that they would adopt both Trapper and Hawkeye. Having puppies around will certainly heal their hearts from their recent losses. All 3 boys will be keeping their names. The family will now have a total of 12 dogs. Sounds like the perfect dream, a house full of dogs to love. Dijon and the puppies sniffed each other and wagged their tails before hopping in the truck for a 10 hour ride to meet the rest of their new family. We are so happy for all of them. See you on the Happy Tails page soon boys.

About Dijon:
12/14/25 Pupdate:
Sadly this sweet boy Dijon has been returned, he is a shy nervous young boy and they had family move in with them that he was alarmed by. He is now at the ranch and was so happy to see everyone, he is filled out and a very sweet boy.
We will look for a new home for him but I want to preface that patience for a dog like him will be of the utmost in seeking a new owner. Dogs like him that grew up in some hell hole, abused with no socialization will always need people to understand they are doing the best they can and need help to blossom.
Yes this sad photo is him looking out at where his family has gone as they drove away.

7/28/25 Original Intake Date:
He was picked up as a stray in Dallas and the shelter reached out to us knowing he was our breed.
You know so many people say I never even see this breed, or I never even heard of this breed so how does a breed thats so uncommon just constantly show up in such a bad way with dire circumstances. I need to inform you this problem occurs in every breed, no matter the obscurity, breed specific rescues are overwhelmed I don’t care how beloved of a breed it might be to you, this problem is happening with every breed. It’s certainly not because Dogue De Bordeaux’s are hugely popular, it’s because people that are gross, and they want to make a buck, so they will breed any kind of breed to make some cash. Well bred Dogue De Bordeaux’s from a respected breeder who breeds only to improve their breed, who scrutinizes every detail of any pup they produce, that screen their buyers as if you are purchasing their own child will cost you about 3,000 for a pup that has no breeding rights, it must be spayed or neutered.
Trashy people see these kind of price tags and then breed some random poor quality Bordeaux to some other random other poor quality Bordeaux and expect to get rich. Sorry it doesn’t work like that and then what happens? a whole litter of poor quality Bordeaux’s end up on Craigslist or just dumped on the street.
This is a baby boy who should have never been born but here he is and I assure you what I described above is probably his situation.
Let me tell you about him, he is 7 months old and weighs 31 pounds, he should weigh 55 to 60 pounds at this age, he is starving and so anemic they think he is trying to develop a heart murmur because of the neglect. He has wounds all over his body, a big gash under his eye and has been beaten up and abused by who knows what.
He is unlucky to have been born where he came from, he is very lucky to have fallen into our hands, because his suffering has just come to a crashing halt. Makes me sick, it truly does, I get so angry I want to scream.
It will take weeks if not months to get him healthy, in addition, as a pup with a very weak immune system having spent a few days in the shelter he is very vulnerable to getting very sick, so of course he is in ISO and we hope if he comes down with anything we can help him through to recover.
