About Hannah Montana:
Hannah Montana came to us with this bad skin, supposedly just a year old, the spots on her skin were odd, but we’ve seen odd before. A happy silly playful dog who never let any of that bother her.
Until yesterday, she came up lame on a back foot, looked like she might have been stung or bitten, we gave her some pain meds and some Benadryl but this morning Emma came in to a very sick dog, she vomited all night, she was lethargic and dehydrated and was whisked off to see Dr. Reno. I was called a couple of hours later with her in critical condition, Dr. Reno said her bloodwork was awful, very low white blood cell count and the little bite on her foot had already began sloughing. She started treating her but we just didn’t know what was happening, but over the day she got worse, much much worse, she started bleeding from her nose, she became very lethargic and wouldn’t even lift her head.
We all discussed, and Dr. Reno said these spots on her body are calcification, you can see them on her x-rays, something is very wrong here and as she deteriorated we had to make some decisions. Dr. Reno feels like the best guess is that Hannah has some kind of autoimmune disease causing this strange skin issue and perhaps a sting on her foot sent her into a crisis that she just couldn’t come out of. Emma was there looking at her this evening and said she looked just horrible, she felt just terrible, and we felt like she was in DIC and bleeding from her nose was getting worse. We just felt wrong with letting her suffer and we all feel that she could not pull through.
Emma sat with this sweet, sweet girl and held her while she left this world. It just breaks our heart, absolutely breaks our heart. It’s just too hard sometimes and you get hit in the gut sometimes when you see it coming like with Mitchell but then with this one it feels like it just came out of nowhere.
Makes us all so sad and I know it does you as well.
Rest in peace little girl, you just didn’t have enough time…
- Hannah is the sweetest squishiest Frenchie in the building! This girl came to us at just a yearold from her life in a puppy mill. She was not taken care of there, and had a horrible skin infection that left her with large patches of missing fur. Luckily our veterinarians were able to see her upon intake to the rescue, and she is now on the mend. She has been spayed and had her teeth cleaned, and all she is waiting for now is you! Careful though, her eyes will put you in a trance…
