Description
Mitchell & Son matured their whiskey in casks under the streets of Dublin in their network of underground cellars. When their fortified wine casks were filled exclusively with Jameson spirit from the old Bow St. Distillery, they were marked with a daub or ‘spot’ of paint which identified how long the barrels would be matured for. Blue for 7 years, Green for 10 years, Yellow for 12 years and Red for 15 years—hence the name Spot Whiskey.
It has long been argued as to which is the greatest of the Spot whiskeys. It’s a question that has divided families for centuries and indeed the Mitchells themselves. So rather than dare suggest which is greater than which, we thought it best to leave it to you to taste them all.
Spot Irish Whiskey Collection
Steeped in Irish whiskey history and tradition, Spot Whiskey is one of Ireland’s most celebrated and distinctive whiskey collections, tracing its origins back to the historic wine merchants Mitchell & Son of Dublin.
For generations, Mitchell & Son matured whiskey beneath the streets of Dublin in an extensive network of underground cellars. Their specially selected fortified wine casks were filled exclusively with spirit from the legendary Jameson Bow Street Distillery and marked with a painted “spot” to identify the aging period of each barrel.
Each color represented a different maturation age:
Blue Spot — 7 Years
Green Spot — 10 Years
Yellow Spot — 12 Years
Red Spot — 15 YearsThis unique tradition gave birth to the iconic Spot Whiskey name and helped establish one of the most beloved whiskey families in Ireland.
Renowned for exceptional smoothness, depth, and character, each expression offers its own distinctive tasting experience — from the vibrant orchard fruit and spice of Green Spot to the richer, more luxurious complexity found in Yellow Spot, Red Spot, and Blue Spot.
Crafted using traditional Irish pot still whiskey methods and matured in a variety of exceptional casks, the Spot collection delivers beautifully layered notes of honey, dried fruit, vanilla, toasted oak, spice, and rich sweetness with remarkable balance and elegance.
Among whiskey enthusiasts, collectors, and Irish whiskey lovers alike, debates continue over which Spot expression reigns supreme — a friendly rivalry that has persisted for generations, even within the Mitchell family itself.
Rather than choosing a favorite, this remarkable collection invites you to experience and compare them all for yourself.
An extraordinary raffle item for whiskey connoisseurs, collectors, and anyone who appreciates the history, craftsmanship, and legacy of premium Irish whiskey.
