This raffle pairing brings together two highly allocated specialty releases from Woodford Reserve, each demonstrating just how dramatically the character of a bourbon can be transformed by what happens after its initial maturation.
Both are bottled at 90.4 proof (45.2% ABV), but that is where the similarities end. One explores the extraordinary depth that comes from additional time in new toasted oak; the other ventures into the world of wine and brandy cask finishing.
Woodford Reserve Double Double Oaked takes the beloved concept behind Double Oaked and pushes it significantly further. After its initial aging in new oak, the bourbon receives approximately two additional years in a heavily toasted, lightly charred second new oak barrel. That extended secondary maturation creates an intensely rich profile filled with butterscotch, dark cocoa, espresso, sweet toasted oak and stewed dark fruit. For fans of deeply oaked, dessert-like bourbons, this is an especially exciting bottle.
Beside it is Woodford Reserve Master’s Collection Sonoma Triple Finish — the 19th edition of the Master’s Collection. Rather than relying primarily on additional new oak, this expression uses a creative combination of finishing barrels influenced by Sonoma County Pinot Noir, brandy and red wine. The result moves in an entirely different direction, bringing forward ripe red fruit, blackberry and dried berries, brandied sweetness, vanilla and warm baking spices while retaining the unmistakable foundation of Woodford Reserve bourbon.
Together, these two bottles offer a fascinating side-by-side experience: one showcasing the power of oak and extended maturation, the other the complexity that carefully selected finishing casks can bring to bourbon.
In Memory of Joe Joe
And then there is Joe Joe, whose place in this raffle is especially meaningful.
Joe Joe came to Dog Ranch Rescue after being found tied up, with a rope wrapped around his leg and a terrible infection that had been allowed to progress so severely that his leg could not be saved. Amputation was necessary, but losing a leg never defined who Joe Joe was.
What defined him was his heart.
He recovered, adapted to life on three legs and became a dog who was deeply loved by everyone fortunate enough to know him. Eventually Joe Joe found his adoptive home and a mom who adored him completely.
Joe Joe has since passed, but some dogs leave a space behind that simply never gets filled. His mom misses him to this day. The words she wrote about him say it beautifully:
He had no idea he was still the background on her watch—that thinking of him could make her smile and cry at the same time, and that she would spend the rest of her life grateful that he had been hers.
Joe Joe’s story is also a reminder of what rescue can accomplish. A dog once left suffering with an infected leg became someone’s treasured family member—and ultimately, a favorite chapter in her life.
