Latest Update:

Avon has been through a lot in the last 3 months. She came to us very pregnant and had her puppies just a few days after arriving. She raised two surviving pups and then her vetting began. She had two separate surgeries for spay, dental (losing 22 teeth), as well as a couple of lumps and bumps removed. During that 3 months she went from absolutely trembling in fear, hiding in the corner, to following her foster mom around like a shadow, giving kisses, and allowing pets on her head. She loves a soft blanket so each room had a blanket she could call her safe space and still be with the other dogs. She has made good progress and today was the day her new family came to adopt her. Michelle and Randy Popiel from Grapevine, TX have been patiently waiting for Avon to be ready to join their family for months. They are previous DRR adopters of Han Solo (8 year old Yorkie) and Rambo (fka Robocop, a 7 year old long hair dachshund). Avon is also 8 years old so the family thought she would be the perfect addition for them. Michelle and Randy have had schnauzers in the past and love the breed. They are both retired and look forward to giving Avon all the time she needs to continue learning to be a family pet. Her new name is Rose/Rosie and today she was given a collar with her new name to start her new life. They are familiar with the Happy Tails page and promise to keep us updated on how Rosie is doing with her two DRR brothers. Enjoy your new life sweet girl.
They don’t allow mill owners to sell dogs over 5 years old unless its a “breed sellout” Lucky for this girl, because otherwise she would never make it to an auction and have the opportunity to escape this life. The catalog says nothing about her, doesn’t even say she’s pregnant, doesn’t give bred dates, they literally said nothing. Our bidder saw her in a cage with a huge belly and told me about her, and I asked her to secure her to go stay with Jenn. She was born on 11/21/2017 and just had her 8th and final birthday in a mill.
