Sometimes the dog you think you want isn’t the dog you were meant to have…

Kevin and Stacy Brownlee of Longview, Texas, put in an application for Goose. The only problem? They already had quite the crew at home—Moose, a 3-year-old Boxer/Mastiff mix; Zak, a 14-year-old Cur/Shepherd mix; Twig, an 8-year-old Rat Terrier; two house cats… and chickens! Unfortunately, our Goose did not pass the cat test.

Kevin said they were open to another dog. They had lost their beloved Frenchie, Petunia, at 13 years old back in January and really missed having a Frenchie in the family. Petunia was Kevin’s sidekick—she loved going on car rides with him (none of the other dogs were interested or they got carsick!) and she was a fun, cuddly little velcro girl. That’s exactly what they were hoping to find again.

Enter Becca.

I just had a feeling she would be the perfect fit. She has that same sweet, loving, velcro personality… but would she pass the cat test?

She passed with flying colors!

It was a done deal.

Kevin works from home, and Stacy’s schedule varies, so the dogs are rarely left alone—which will make Becca one very happy girl. She’ll also have plenty of company from her two fur brothers, her fur sister, the kitties, the chickens, and the family’s adult kids whenever they’re home.

I truly believe this adoption was meant to be.

I just got an update, and they’re already completely smitten with her. They said she’s fit right in, as if she’s always been part of the family.

Becca is approximately 3 years old and currently weighs 24.5 lbs. This little girl has the kindest, sweetest, most loving soul. Look into those eyes and you just melt. She takes everything in stride without a single complaint… yucky medicine? Ok, no problem, I’ll take it.

 

We think she may have been bitten by a spider and the area swelled up to the size of a golf ball. It had to be drained and then cleaned daily, and through it all she just looks at me and lets me take care of her.

 

Becca loves sleeping on her bed with lots of blankets — she especially loves being covered up. She loves her treats and loves playing with the others. She already knows to sit when asked and takes her treats so very gently. It makes me smile.

 

The fungus on her belly has greatly improved, and Dr. Spencer said her cauliflower ears have improved enough for surgery. Her surgery is scheduled for Tuesday. I’m really hoping this will help her hear better and finally be free from those painful ears.

 

She deserves the very best life ever, and we’re going to make sure she gets it. Get your applications in… this little girl has that special magic!

Becca was seen by Dr. Spencer yesterday and I discussed her with him on the phone, he feels like everything happening to her is fungal that has been ignored and neglected, her stomach, her ears that are basically closed all due to neglect. It is going to be a long road with medicine for her, and at this point we are unsure if we can avoid TECA’s with her ears, right now no ear canal can be seen. Millie will battle this with her down the long road of trying to get her well. She is a sweet girl and deserved so much better, definitely a common theme with so many.
