Latest Update:

Betty has been settling into her new home with the Goins family for just over a week now, and we couldn’t be happier for her. Her journey with us began when foster mom Trish spotted her at the shelter and instantly fell in love. Trish knew Betty belonged in rescue and brought her into our care.
To get a sense of Betty’s personality, we welcomed her to the ranch where she met a variety of dogs. At first, she was incredibly shy—quietly observing from the sidelines. It wasn’t until the end of her stay that she began to open up and play with the others, showing us glimpses of the sweet girl underneath that timid exterior.
When it comes to adoptive homes, Wade and Michelle Goins hold a special place in our hearts. They consistently reach out for the dogs who need a little extra love—the ones who might be overlooked. They adopted Toofers (now Remi), a shy girl who struggled with trust, especially around men. More recently, they welcomed Sabrina, who heartbreakingly was returned to rescue for “getting too big,” despite weighing nearly the same as when she was adopted.
And now, they’ve opened their hearts to Betty.
She spent her first few days curled up on the couch, taking in her new surroundings. But the Goins family let us know that she’s starting to venture out, exploring the house and showing off her gentle, affectionate nature. They say she’s the sweetest—and we couldn’t agree more.
We’re overjoyed to see Betty thriving in such a loving, patient home. Thank you, Wade and Michelle, for seeing the beauty in the quiet ones.
About Betty:
9/21/25 Pupdate:

Betty has arrived from Oklahoma where she finished all her vetting. now it’s time for us to learn who she is and what she is all about. First and foremost she is some kind of Boxer mix? but she is very small, its hard to capture on photos but shes about 35 pounds. Betty is a middle aged dog we guess, 5 or so, she is very quiet, and very shy.

We are working with her on trusting us and we know we will get there.

Betty’s transformation in Oklahoma is nothing short of astonishing! It just goes to show what a little love, care, and proper nutrition can do. She’s@ still at the vet, bouncing back from an upper respiratory infection she contracted at the shelter. Fortunately, she’s a laid-back lady who plays nice with other dogs and wasn’t subjected to their shenanigans for an extended period. I’m utterly delighted with her progress and can’t express my gratitude enough for giving her a second chance. Her bloodwork is pristine, she’s heartworm-free, and spaying will be scheduled as soon as she’s feeling better. The kennel staff is absolutely smitten with her!

There are a few dogs that we have taken into the rescue in the last week that are all up in Oklahoma with Dr. Roach in isolation. I will share their stories one at a time, today it’s this girl. Trish texted me about her, she was scheduled to be put to sleep in a few hours, she made Trish sad. I told her we can take her but she needs to be isolated in Oklahoma. Dr. Roach is always very helpful with these kinds of things so Trish pulled her out and drove him over to his office. She is very shy and currently very sick with upper respiratory illness which we knew would happen. They called her Betty and we just left that as Trish said it seemed to fit her.
A few words from Trish:
One of the OKC employees in the transfer office adopted Leprechaun from DRR and after I introduced myself, she has been sending pups our way that need our care and compassion! Totally out of my comfort zone with Frenchies, she sent me this picture of a Boxer/Bulldog mix with eyes that captured my heart. Found alone in a field in Oklahoma, she was on the euthanasia list for today, but I gave it a shot and sent her picture to Renee Eden. Since DRR’s isolation ward is full, Dr. Roach agreed to let her do isolation at 405 Vet Hospital and vetting could begin. She was so scared as we walked out of the shelter with her head down, making no eye contact, but we’re hopeful for her future.
She is a very lucky girl indeed.
