Sometimes we have a rescue that comes in that literally takes our breath away, the horrid condition of a dog that has suffered so tremendously will often make you not want to look at it. When we see a dog like that we roll up our sleeves, pick up our boot straps and get to work trying to save their life.
Bob Ross was a stray, good Lord the condition of him was atrocious, barely identifiable as to what kind of dog he was, how old is he, is he a shepherd? All questions that didn’t matter, what matters is he was close to dying, the neglect and malnourishment had gone on for so long he didn’t have long to live, how horrible he had to have felt.
He was rushed to the ER by Ricky Barnes and the staff began treatment immediately. A precious loving boy who was so grateful to have humans who care, who gave him everything he needed, day after day his care was meticulous, a criticalist had to be called in a couple of times for advice due to the condition of his internal organs that just did not want to function because they had given up on him ever being fed. Nearly two weeks of hospitalization is what it took to finally get his kidneys to decide that they actually had enough fluid and nutrition in his body now they could begin to work properly.
Finally he was able to come to us at the sanctuary where the staff round the clock continued with his care. Our staff poured their heart and soul into this sweet boy and the village fell in love with his rescue and slowly his transformation into the beauty he is today.
Joan Rousseau & Don Messmer from Butler PA have adopted from Dog Ranch Rescue with four dogs, Sbarro, Mariah Carey, Dim Sum and Sesame have all found their forever family with them. Joan reached out and said they would love for Bob Ross to come live with them when he would finally be healthy enough for that. They began their drive a couple of days ago and along the way Joan reached out to Laura and asked does that little Maeve still not have a home? Laura said no unfortunately she doesn’t, Joan said that’s fine she shall go home with us to Pennsylvania with Bob.
It doesn’t get much better than that, not sure there could be two more lucky dogs that would have had a much different fate without rescue.
I want to take a moment to thank our donors, Bob Ross was an incredibly expensive rescue, well over 10,000 to save his life and restore his health, many people don’t agree with spending that much on one dog, they might take a look at his condition and say just euthanize him and spend your resources on another dog thats not so bad off. We simply do not agree and are grateful for our donors who agree with us.
Joan is well aware of her assignment taking in a rescue like Bob that so many of us have fallen in love with. Keep us updated on Happy Tails often, we will miss him.
On another note I would like to thank Eva for putting together this video of Bob And Maeve. Eva is very much like Wes, they both share the love of editing and content creating and this assignment for her was a very big one, she has worked for hours and hours on putting it together for all of you, I hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
Good night everyone and Bravo Eva!
About Bob Ross:
What is there to say?
Good grief, Ricky is on his way to bring him to our staff at the sanctuary.
Whatever hell you have lived through we will never understand but it’s all over now.
Welcome to Dog Ranch Rescue Bob Ross

UPDATE 7/25/2024
Today is a big day for Bob Ross, they have removed his IV fluids and now we wait and hope that his kidneys decide that they are well enough and hydrated enough to begin to start doing their job and function without continual fluids supporting and hydrating them. We are now looking for him to hold his own and not fall backward. If he can it looks like he would be discharged maybe tomorrow.
Hopes prayers, and positive thoughts are needed. Let’s go Bob this is your time.

We wanted to see Bob Ross when he arrived to see if he needed to be in the hospital. A quick assessment told us yes. He is very down and out and in very bad shape. So many times a dog like this has been living off of adrenaline alone to survive, once they are safe they lay down and die. Right now we need to fight for him and he’s on his way to the ER.
Later in the day:
Bob Ross is in the hospital now. Looks like he will stay at the ER initially for 2-3 days. They are going to place a PICC line to be able to draw frequent labs instead of poking him constantly. They are also likely going to place a feeding tube. They want to do aggressive critical care with fluids / extra electrolytes added in and monitor him closely for refeeding syndrome. They will run baseline labs and possibly send out a panel for tick borne illnesses, and we will have to wait for what those show.
He’s got a long way to go but help that’s he’s needed for a long time has now come.
Good grief this poor dog.
