Latest Update:

What do you do when two dogs need homes where they can be the only pet? You take a chance… and send them to the same home!

It was a bit of a leap, but we weren’t having much luck placing Brie and Wilma individually—and then something unexpected happened. We caught them playing together at the Ranch like old friends. That’s when we thought, “Why not?”

Enter Stacy Faulkner from Chatham, LA. After losing her beloved Izzy to heart failure, she was looking to open her heart again. When she spotted both Brie and Wilma on the LSDR & DRR Facebook pages, she didn’t hesitate—she asked if she could adopt both. As a retired law enforcement officer with 16 years in K9 work, we knew she had the experience, patience, and heart to give these girls the home they deserved.

Brie and Wilma went on a trial visit, and true to form, Brie tried to claim Stacy as her own. But Stacy took it in stride, working through the quirks with calm and confidence.

When we checked in to see if they were ready to make it official, the answer was simple: “They’re not going anywhere.”

So here’s to Brie and Wilma—two strong-willed souls who found the perfect human to match their spirit. Be good girls and enjoy your amazing new life!

Good night everyone

About Brie:

6/3/25 PUPDATE:

**Meet Brie — A Girl Who’s Fought Like Hell to Get Here**
When Brie was dropped off at the shelter, she wasn’t just broken-hearted — she was physically broken, too. With both a rectal and vaginal prolapse, she needed emergency surgery and round-the-clock care. Of course we said yes. We always say yes to the ones who need it most. And Brie… well, she needed *everything*.
That first month at our sanctuary was all about healing her body. But as many of you know, that was just the beginning. Brie had a hard shell — snappy with new people, downright nasty with other dogs. She had been let down so deeply, so repeatedly, that she didn’t trust anyone. And who could blame her?
But through the “no ma’ams,” the boundaries, the structure, and the steady rhythm of love, Brie began to change. Her wall started to crack, then crumble. Now? She plays. She snuggles. She accepts love like she’s been doing it all her life. She still has her quirks — she always will — but she’s finally living in peace.
Brie’s got a stormy swirl of blue Merle on her coat and a glint of steel-blue defiance in her right eye. She’s a survivor. A queen. And she’s ready for her forever home — one where she can be the only dog, the main character, the one and only star. She’s earned it.
**Brie fought hard for her second chance. Now we’re fighting to find her someone who’ll never let her down again.**
Brie needs to be the one and only dog in your life — no exceptions. She’s come too far, and we won’t risk her peace for anything less than the perfect fit. But let us tell you: *what a dog you’ll be getting.* Brie is absolutely hilarious — dramatic, expressive, always up to something — and she keeps our whole staff laughing daily. She’s a true original, full of sass and charm and totally unforgettable. Brie isn’t just a survivor; she’s a personality powerhouse and one of our all-time favorites. We adore her — and we know the right person will too.

A horrific start to this girls rescue, owner surrender to the shelter with a prolapsed rectum and a prolapsed vagina at he same time, covered in fleas, ticks and maggots the emergency team went to work on her rushing her into surgery to repair the damage, to spay her and to give her her a colopexy to try and fix her rectum in place. We can only guess she’s 3 or 4 years old, she is a sweet girl in spite of it all
