Latest Update:
Are you ready for this one??
Just as I reached out to the village about the difficult to place dogs we have at the rescue, Coltrane being one of them as a very senior boy with arthritis, heartworm and a bad heart…
Voila we get an email from Judy Schneider that says we will take that sweet old man and let him live out his life with us. They will take him through for all of his medical appointments upcoming and will love him at their home in the process.
So how about that!!!
Coltrane now has a new family!! He is going to live with Little Mimi (now Stevie) and 4 other siblings in Whitesboro, TX. He was adopted by Judy and Dale Schneider. If you remember, he is a veterinarian and she is a vet tech. There will be plenty of room for him on their 3 1/2 acre ranch and with their animal knowledge, he is in the best of hands! Funny story: their border collie is a foster fail named Foster because originally Judy wasn’t supposed to give him a name or she would get too attached.
We know we will see a lot of him with his new family on Happy Tails as Judy does such a good job keeping us up to date on Stevie.
Happy life Coltrane we wish you nothing but the best!!!
About Coltrane:
This boy caught my eye with his photo in the shelter. A tired old man dumped in the shelter who has a hard time getting up but who cares. He of course deserves a great home with a big soft bed for the remainder of his days. We tagged him and Raquel went and pulled him out to hold at her home until we have all of the dogs we are rescuing gathered together.

We would like to welcome to Dog Ranch Rescue Coltrane 🥰

UPDATE 1/28/2021

You know this old man captured my heart the minute I saw him laying on the floor of that shelter, dropped off by a family that clearly used to love him. He got old, that was his end… and off he went. He is arthritic and he needs to walk slow but bless his heart when you get a leash out he gets excited and wants to go for the walk he used to do with his family. The volunteers taking him for a little old man stroll and that makes him very happy. He will politely with and give you a shake too, something he also learned with his past family. I know its kind for people to take the dog to the shelter when they don’t want them anymore as opposed to dumping them but alas, here is Mr. Coltrane looking for a new family in his very senior years.

UPDATE 1/22/2021
This is Coltrane who is a very senior dog, I’m sure he was dropped at the shelter because he is old and that’s what a lot of people think they should do when their dog gets really old. He has trouble getting up and down but he can do it, he has a ton of arthritis, but in addition to that he is heartworm positive, I’m sure he lived his life in the valley without ever having heartworm preventative. In addition to that he has a bad heart and will need to go in for an echo to determine what we can help him with from a medication standpoint. The heartworms certainly don’t help this situation.

As always its hard to find homes for these old senior dogs with known medical issues that will require medication for the rest of is life however long that is but we will be looking for that special someone.

UPDATE 1/18/2021

Coltrane is an old man, I’m sure he got dropped at the shelter because of just that. He has a little bit of trouble getting up, so what??
In his mind he is a happy guy with some difficulties, when we were cleaning up the dogs the night the came in, he rolls over on his back and acts like a silly nut when you go to pick him up or try and put a collar on him, I swear he was laughing..
He wants to play with the young guys but isn’t very strong for that so he just plays like this instead…
We hope that someone out there won’t mind giving this senior a home and offering him a good life for his last years.
