Almost two years ago to the day, John and Karen Stahlman visited the Sanctuary with their two dogs, Jersey & Arthur, to meet their granddog, Iris—a DDB their daughter was adopting. More recently, Karen was one of Ricky’s raffle winners and chose to pick up her bourbon at the Sanctuary, giving them the chance to enjoy the much‑anticipated tour. That visit also introduced them to Clyde, the DDB who reignited their love for the breed.
The Stahlmans have had several mastiffs over the years and frequently care for their granddog, so the spark was already there. Clyde, however, was already spoken for—but they waited patiently for the right dog to come along, and Darlin turned out to be the one.
They brought Jersey (Arthur has since passed) and Kaia (formerly Iris) to meet her. At first, Kaia wasn’t entirely sure about this new girl, but once everyone got out into the yard, everything shifted. The dogs began to relax and genuinely enjoy each other’s company.
We don’t have her new name yet, but the Stahlmans know all about Happy Tails, and we’re excited to hear what they choose.
A long wait, a perfect match, and a very happy ending in the making.
Darlin was found as a stray in Arkansas and sent to the shelter where nobody came to claim her.
