Doughboy

Adopted!
New Name:
Age: Adult
Sex: Male
Breed: French Bulldog
Weight:
Current Location:
Adoption Date:
Adopted by: The Clark Family
Latest Update:

Doughboy was such a tough case with all his dermatological needs. He had to stay in isolation for a while but had a family waiting and ready for him. Unfortunately, sometimes life gets in the way so four days before the adoption, they had an emergency in life and had to cancel the adoption, but luckily, the Clark family had submitted an application previously and stepped right in to give Doughboy his new life.

They adopted Bullfrog, now Letty in June 2021. She is the light of their lives and thought she would really enjoy having a playmate! Since Doughboy is absolutely adorable, and they are fully capable of maintaining his bathing and allergy needs, he was chosen! Paul & Evyn Clark both work from home so they have time to care for him and Letty. We are grateful to the Clark family for adopting Doughboy knowing that he will have some skin challenges and they are up for the task.

Happy life Doughboy, we know it will be full of love and bubble baths!

About Doughboy:

Okay, lets talk…
This is Doughboy, you guys all know how adorable this toot is. His adoption has fallen apart so we are looking for his family. Don’t get too excited until I fill you in on what kind of a home we need for him.
First of all yes, he is tiny, and he is adorable. But…………
If you look at the last photo that I am sharing with you in a sweater covered in blood you can see that he came to us in horrific condition, he has terrible allergies, terrible skin and will need constant, and I mean constant attention, vet care and special baths and most likely dermatology for the rest of his life.
You all know what this entails if you have followed this page as I share with you Bessie Pearl and Mitch. It is not for the lackadaisical pet owner and it is not for a person living on a tight budget because ongoing care will be expensive, and constant for the rest of his life.
He is estimated to be only about a year old, he has a peculiarity with his adult canine teeth, they have not come in all the way and if they don’t, they may have to be removed at some point, because it can cause issues with them not coming up. We have not done anything as we were told to wait and see if they will emerge.
He does not like being confined and he screams like a very tiny banshee, he is awful for the vet to give him vaccines or to trim his toenails. However he does love a good bubble bath, and has had dozens, and dozens of them, and will need that literally forever. In addition he is a terrible poop eater and needs to be kept a close eye on him for that. He has been awful about humping other dogs but to be fair he was only recently healthy enough to be neutered so that will improve. He doesn’t like intact males and even recently neutered males and in a true Napoleon syndrome thinks he should challenge them to a duel, once again that will improve now that he is neutered.
The good things about Doughboy, well look at him… They don’t get much cuter….He is tiny, weighing in at 14 pounds he needs to gain a couple of pounds, and will do that better in a home, and now that he is neutered. He loves affection, will roll over for you to give him some belly rubs, and is a sweet little funny man.
I lay all of this out as honestly and as forthright as possible so you aren’t applying for something you don’t understand is involved.

This is what Dough Boy has been living with under his sweater. The rot, the yeast, the smell, the infection, the itch.
You all watched the transformation of Mitch and you know what pulling a dog out of this looks like, how long it takes, the amount of veterinary care, and baths, baths, baths, medicine, medicine, and more medicine, before we can get him healthy again.
Allergies in dogs is a very big deal, they are to be managed, daily, even once they have recovered. I have to monitor Bessie Pearl and Mitchie constantly and any kind of flair has to be leapt on immediately, or the dogs skin, ears, feet will fall apart quickly. They are expensive to own and time consuming to welcome them into your life.
It’s never to be underestimated.
______________________________________
I figure I should say goodnight and close out the year wishing all of you a safe and Happy New Year.
With that, the onslaught continues all the way to the very last day of the year. The overwhelming amount of French Bulldogs tossed out, dumped in shelters, and left to fend for themselves. The fella in the sweater has been in the shelter for many days, we tagged him long ago, they said his skin is so bad he needs a shirt. Emma drove out to get him late this afternoon, and when she arrived they said can you take this little man that dropped off by his “owner” an hour ago, they were told his rectum had been out for two days, and then he left. By now this is just the norm for us and what a shame that is.
Emma is driving back with them both now, the sweater boy is Pillsury Doughboy, she said his skin is horrific. She will have to stop at the ER to drop off the prolapse boy we are calling Percival.
Once again, we can only hope that they can get it back inside, that there isn’t too much necrosis, and his life can be saved.
Maybe for the last time this year we can raise a few dollars for both of these neglected abandoned boys. They are both pretty heartbreaking.
