It felt like déjà vu when Shawn and Lindy returned to the Sanctuary with their beautiful daughters—Kendall, Heidi, and Taylor—for their second adoption from Dog Ranch Rescue. The scene was strikingly familiar, with the same joyful smiles and a photo that mirrored their first visit—only this time, the Lathrop girls were just a couple of years older.

Adoptions are clearly a family affair for the Lathrops. Just like before, every member made it a priority to be there, together, to welcome their newest addition. In 2023, they adopted Sparky—now known as Winston—and today, it was Dougie’s turn to find his forever home and a brand-new name.

Are you guys still baffled with the amount of Frenchies surrendered or dumped ?

I guess I still am, but it’s beyond commonplace now.

Disposable, discarded, unwanted, neglected, abused, it’s just the new reality.

As we headed to the shelter to pick up Buc-ee’s they asked us if we could take another one dropped at the shelter last night. You can read the form yourself, the contradiction of “quiet” to “rambunctious” to “moderate” activity.

The truth is we never know what is a lie and what is the truth. It says he’s afraid of men, well he loves Ricky so there’s that. Says he guards food and people so what does that mean? Usually it means he has no discipline.

This is the thing about rescue, we don’t know anything but what we are told, and cannot believe half of that.

We will figure it out ourselves and the isolation room was empty for about 24 hours and now this guy is in there to see what he might be harboring from being in the shelter for less than 12 hours.
