Gina

In Memoriam
Age: Young
Sex: Female
Breed: Dogue de Bordeaux
About Gina:
A little tiny shelter in Louisiana with only 6 dog runs needed help with this girl. The story has it that they know who she belonged to but they never came for her, we leapt into action knowing her stray hold would be up at 8:00 am this morning and Mr. Ricky Barnes left at 4:00 am to make sure he was there right at that time to which her away from this suffering life she had been living.
She is now on her way with Mr. Ricky Barnes and as you can see she’s a mess. Ricky reported this morning what he was told from shelter staff.
“They think she is about 1 year old. They took her to the vet yesterday and the vet said the one eye with the cherry eye has started to form cataracts and she may not see too well out of it. The other eye seems to have good vision.
She had been shot with a b b gun and they took a pellet out of her back leg. She is emaciated only weighing 65 pounds and heartworm positive.
She is a wiggle worm and sweet as can be”.
We already have an appointment with Dr. Reno for her to be seen and the Eye Institute has been called as well, she appears to me to have entropian and that is most likely scratching her eye over and over again which can lead to blindness.
We will get her all shined up like a brand new penny.

Welcome to Dog Ranch Rescue Gina ❤

Our hearts are broken and tears are streaming down my face. Gina was being fostered by Christi and her little boy Wyatt and they had fallen in love with her and they were contemplating keeping her after losing their Mastiff not very long ago.
Today Gina went in for her spay this morning and did well, this afternoon they took her out to potty and she just laid down, they rushed her back inside and her belly was full of blood and Dr. Reno rushed her back into surgery, she was stable and did well during the surgery, she triple ligated the uterine stump, and she had two stitches left to close her and she went into cardiac arrest, they tried for 45 minutes to bring her back but they couldn’t. They don’t know if it was due to the heart worms and then the blood loss but he heart quit and she was gone and they could not get her back, they are all just sick and devastated over there. I called Christi is just beyond herself, this poor family and little Wyatt at Christmas time.
This is just awful and what a wonderful girl she was to have lost her, we are just so very sad.

UPDATE 12/7/2021

I don’t think that its known that finding applications for Dogue De Bordeaux’s isn’t as easy as one might think. They are not a breed for everyone, many of you never even heard of them before following our page, many of you have never seen one in person. They are a large breed, they were bred for guarding the castles about 600 years ago, they are one of the oldest French breeds. There is tons of history with this breed and they are loved very much by our family, and we have rescued 100’s of them over the years.
Now to what we need your help with, this precious girl Gina has had surgery on her eyes for entropian, she will be spayed next week and have her treatment to kill her heart worms but the bad news is that not one single person has applied to adopt her. Now let me tell you if Jessica wasn’t full at her house this girl would 100% live with her, she is in love with her and she’s a pretty special Dogue. In addition to Gina none of the 7 Bordeaux’s we brought in from the mill auction have homes either. Applications are scarce and that’s where we need your help. Gina is with foster mom Christi and she sends us this update on this sweet girl.

“Gina…checking in from Casa De Regan! I got the best news ever when I went for my follow up eye appointment – NO MORE CONE! It’s a good thing since I broke mine into pieces. 😣😬 I am a bull in a China shop mom for now says, not sure what that means! 😆 I like to put little Wyatt to bed until it’s my bedtime and then I move downstairs to my bed on the floor and saw logs all night long. Christi says she is going to make someone so incredibly happy. She doesn’t potty in the house, she sleeps on her bed in our room all night, she can be trusted out in the house when we are not home. She is amazing. ”

UPDATE 11/18/2021

Sweet girl Gina has had her eye surgery and is now staying with foster mom Christi.

She’s a beautiful dog and now that her eyes are repaired we will be able to see that much better now. She’s got lots more vetting to still do. She’s now in heat and will have to wait for her spay and after that she’s sick with heartworm and will have to have treatment to kill those worms that are currently trying to kill her.

UPDATE 11/1/2021

Proud of little Gina Bear who passed her behavioral tests today. She’s roaming with the pack now and loves the other dogs. A little bear for sure, but with some of her features, she reminds us all of Joe Joe.❤

UPDATE 10/30/2021

All we heard was how wild and excited Gina is. It became very clear after spending some time with her that her excitement is just wanting to be touched and when people would try and do stuff to her ie medication, she would be so wild they could hardly get it done. Just a couple of days later, it gets easier and easier and she just wants nothing more than to be touched and loved on. She is such a sweet little tiny bear…

UPDATE 10/29/2021

Gina was examined yesterday by Dr. Reno, her eye is so badly inflamed with all of the lids that the actual eye cannot even be seen. She has dry eye, she has entropian, she has a cherry eye and we are putting medication in her eye 3 times a day to try and get the swelling and inflammation down and on Monday she will be examined again to get a better understanding of what damage has occurred with this eye.
She is a young girl, she is a little wild girl, she has clearly had absolutely no positive human interaction in her life, she knows nothing about going in and out of a crate, she knows nothing about walking on a leash, she is very food motivated for obvious reasons and most importantly she is adorable and sweet.
She seems to me to have just lived outside on her own and had little experience being a pet.
We will keep her at the ranch isolated for a while, feeding her several times a day and medicating her as well. She has terrible diarrhea and Dr. Reno said she pooped a lot of sticks out when she was there so she’s been just scavenging and most of the time when they start eating regularly it causes diarrhea.
She has the lounge to herself and the lounge yard, she can come inside or outside and has a nice bed inside to rest when she would like.
It will take a while to vet this girl, she’s got lots of issues but we will get there slowly but surely.
