Goose

It seems to be a recurring theme in rescue: sometimes the dogs who take the longest to place are the ones who end up exactly where they’re meant to be. Goose certainly followed that pattern, and the Whitworth family waited patiently for their dream dog.

We received many applications for Goose, but finding the right home was essential. He was the cutest little guy…with the absolute worst personality. On top of that, he had heartworms and needed treatment before he could even be considered adoptable. And personality-wise? He was a tiny terror. He lost his first potential family during the meet & greet because he had no respect for their current dog — but don’t worry, they ended up adopting another pup from us who is now living her best life.

We genuinely debated whether Goose needed an only‑dog home, which is something we try hard to avoid. Instead, we sent him to the Ranch to work with balanced, well‑socialized dogs from loving homes. After two days, the Ranch team was ready to send him back to the Sanctuary…but they stuck with it. The dogs around him taught him, in the way only dogs can, what was acceptable and what was not. With patience and consistency, Goose finally started to understand the rules of polite dog society.

Once he was ready, we crossed our fingers when Brandon, Courtney, Cole, and Peyton arrived with their male dog, Tripp, for the meet & greet. And Goose — the same Goose who had terrorized his first meet & greet — was absolutely perfect with Tripp. He soaked up cuddles from the whole family, and they even brought him a bandana and blanket embroidered with his name.

Their application also mentioned another rescue dog, Jade, who Goose will meet once he’s home. And one detail really stood out: they recently lost a beloved boy to cancer, a deaf dog they taught sign language. We even saw Brandon beginning to sign to Goose in the lobby. That kind of dedication speaks volumes.

Goose has finally found a home that truly “gets” him — a place where he can live out his life as a spoiled (but not too spoiled) little boy.
