Latest Update:

⁨We called him GusGus at the Sanctuary, and we loved him deeply—but truthfully, we thought he might be with us forever.
Gus arrived on May 2, 2025, surrendered by his owner and wrapped in behavioral challenges. He was a mess—but a heartbreakingly handsome one. His looks drew plenty of applications, but it quickly became clear: Gus needed to be the only dog in the home. He didn’t respond well to correction, had a strong aversion to men, and—if we’re being honest—could be a bit of a jerk. What he needed was a home that could meet him with patience, creativity, and kindness. Timeout for Gus meant being scooped up and snuggled, not scolded.
Then came Samantha Campbell’s application. It checked every box—except one. We were a little unsure about her husband. Samantha assured us he wasn’t the disciplinarian type, and we thought, maybe that’s exactly what Gus needs. Because Gus could be unpredictable with new people, we arranged a few mock adoptions to test the waters. And to our surprise, he handled them beautifully. Maybe he knew this was his shot.
When Gus finally met his new family, our concerns melted away. He connected with them instantly. He went home on a trial visit to give everyone time to bond and settle in—and yesterday, we got the news: Gus is home. Even better, he’s bonded with Samantha’s husband.
Enjoy your new life, Gus. You earned it. And we couldn’t be happier for you.⁩

About Gus:

UPDATE

We have struggled to figure out exactly what is best for Gus, he is a quirky dude, owner surrender who as best we can understand it was spoiled to a fault and it created issues in his home and then he lost that home. The man in the home was a disciplinarian and Gus did not like him. They had big issues about going outside to potty and the battle got worse and worse. Gus appears to be housebroken for us at the sanctuary, he does not lift his leg, and he does not wear a wrap, however once Wes took him home the leg lifting was non stop and he wore a wrap, Obviously we weren’t there in the home he came from and we never are, we don’t like to make assumptions, we just gather info, and then move about gathering our own info, and making decisions based on what we see.
Gus can be a jerk to large males we have had at the sanctuary, typically its a testicle issue and I don’t doubt thats the case here, Gus does not like loud verbal corrections and instead its best to change the subject for him, pick him up and move him along somewhere else, sometimes thats just what you have to do, no reason to make a battle a war.
Gus is a very affectionate dog and loves love, Gus is a very spoiled dog, he was raised that way and is used to getting his way. He is the kind of dog that its just best to place him in a home as an only dog, and continue the spoiling where he doest have to challenge another dog for affection or toys or anything, Just let him be the spoiled dog that he is.
Gus is weary at the sanctuary and has had as much of it as he can take.

Owner surrender, 3 years old.

Meet Gus, a charming and stocky blue Frenchie with a big personality and even bigger love for water.  Gus is always up for a splash or a game of “chase the other Frenchies”.  Head scratches are his absolute favorite, and once you find the right spot, he’ll melt into your hands.

He is also quite toy-driven and loves his collection, though he can get a bit possessive, especially around other dogs and may need gentle boundaries when it comes to sharing.

Gus is highly food-motivated, which makes training easier, but can get overzealous around meals and may try to assert dominance if other dogs are nearby.

Gus is a vocal guy in his den and has a strong personality; he has reacted negatively to corrections in the past with some nipping behavior, so he needs an experienced, confident owner who can provide structure, patience and positive reinforcement.

If you are ready for a loyal, lively Frenchie with a love of life (and water!), then Gus might be your perfect match.
