About Honey Rose:
Let me update you on how the last 12 hours have gone with Honey Rose. The Er called me late last night, she is heart worm negative, her bloodwork looked good however they drained 4 pounds of fluid from her body, underneath that bloated tiny body was a dog that was emaciated. They gave her body condition score a 1-2 which is horrible, skin and bones with this failing heart and fluid buildup not allowing her to eat and gain any weight. Her murmur in her heart was a grade 5.
We talked about what we thought and Dr. Yeager said this is a malfunctioning heart, but she felt so much better getting that fluid off so she could breathe again, and was happily eating. We both decided let’s just give her a chance and try some meds and see if she could have some quality if even for the weekend, or a week, Nobody knows how they are going to respond. For right that minute she was happy and breathing easy.
I got a call early this morning that brought the bad news, she had already added a full pound of fluid back onto her body and was already uncomfortable and trying to prop herself up to rest from the discomfort for her trying to breathe. I reached out to Terrie who wanted to be with her, she said she would be right there. She came with some powdered donuts and fresh chicken and offered her a little happy treat and then said her goodbyes and she passed very peacefully. No more suffering for her, it’s sad that her owners couldn’t have done the same for her. I will always remain baffled by people that fail their dogs when they need them the most.
Sadly it’s part of rescue, doing what you can, and doing what you must.
Thank you to Terrie for being her hero, thank you to the staff of McKinney emergency for always being there for us, when we need them the most.
Rest in peace little girl, I will tell Bea and Levon to lead the way for you.

I’m going to be honest with you right from the get go. We do not know if she can be saved. Terrie picked her up from a breeder who didn’t want her and clearly was doing nothing for her.
She is at the ER, does she have heart failure? does she have heart failure from a congenital defect? does she have heart failure because she’s infested with heart worms that are killing her? is there some other issue with her organ functions?
We don’t know, we are running the following tests to begin, a 4DX test to see if she’s heart-worm positive. We will take blood for bloodwork, we will take x-rays, we will have them drain the fluid off so she can breathe again without suffocating and drowning in all of this fluid. They will ultrasound her heart and organs to see what is going on.
If she cannot be saved with quality in her life we will let her go, we don’t believe in making a dog suffer with something that isn’t solve able. If we can do something to give her a chance at quality we will do it.
I won’t know the results of tests until later on tonight. Terrie has called her Honey Rose and said if she cannot be saved she will go back down there and hold her while she leaves this world, something far more precious than suffocating to death and struggling.
If you would like to donate to her expenses we would appreciate that, just know that if she can’t be saved all donations past her expenses will be used on other rescues that need help.
I will update in the morning guys, thank you in advance and good night.
