It’s “old home” adoption day at the Sanctuary. First the Coopers, and now Karen Cushman and Debbie McCanless of Decatur, GA. Karen and Debbie were part of the rescue’s earliest days, helping us get off the ground by adopting three of our Frenchies. To give you an idea of just how long ago that was: they adopted our 131st rescue, Juniper; our 328th rescue, Fresca; and our 665th rescue, Flo Jo.

Recently, Debbie was browsing the website and Facebook when she spotted Jazz. Karen had been away for a week and had just gotten home — and in that softened, “sure, why not” state we all know too well, she said yes to Jazz. Jazz had just wrapped up her heartworm treatment (as so many of our dogs have lately), so they flew in and flew out the same day to bring her home to Bonnie, their 3‑year‑old Frenchie; Morgan, their 5‑year‑old Frenchie; and Dooley, their 17‑year‑old pit mix.

Her new name comes courtesy of their niece: Elphaba, with Elphie as her nickname.

We can’t wait to watch her thrive and enjoy all the new adventures ahead. Congratulations to this wonderful family.
