Inside the world of a meet & greet and adoption:
Many times we combine the meet & greet with the adoption so families don’t have to make two trips. If the meet & greet goes well, their new furbaby heads home with them. If not, we can pivot and work toward finding a dog who’s a better fit. The Sanctuary staff facilitate these meetings, and because they know both dog behavior and the personalities of the rescues entrusted to them, they’re quick to spot any concerns. If a dog just needs a correction or two, they guide the adopter on the best approach based on that dog’s unique temperament.
For this adoption, Emma was at the helm as Pearl met Mac N Cheese. John and Nicki Hyde of Southlake, TX—along with their four kids, ages 15 to 7—were all gathered in the lobby with Pearl and Mac, making things a bit chaotic. Pearl was wound up, what most people might see could worry them. But Emma, with her years of experience, was confident they’d do just fine together in a home environment. Mac has a laid‑back, playful personality and didn’t mind one bit that Pearl wanted to be the alpha. He simply goes with the flow. So off they went—one big, happy family.
And then came the update:
“Pearl calmed down the second we got her into the environment she’s used to. They’ve played pretty much nonstop since getting home, and both were so tired they passed out. Mac was left out of the crate overnight and didn’t have any accidents or chew anything up. He already learned how to get onto our bed and cuddle with Nicki. We leave him out, and he meets us at the door to the garage when we get home.”
Mac N Cheese will keep his name—just Mac—and he’s already settling into an incredible life with a family who absolutely adores him. He’s the kind of dog who shines even brighter when surrounded by love, and he’s certainly found the perfect place for that.
About Mac n Cheese:
Another throw away French Bulldog, stray out in the heat, nobody looking for him. Lots of skin infection, so he will need time to heal.
