Latest Update:

Found as a stray at the Dallas Zoo, seemingly abandoned. That’s where Memaw’s story in rescue began. What happened to her before that? We’ll never know, but I suspect that’s it’s the tale as old as time: used for breeding and thrown away when she was no longer profitable. None of that matters now because she’ll never have to worry about anything ever again.
John and Carrie Lambert are no strangers to DRR. They adopted Bella fka Tribeca in 2018 and Baileigh fka Belatrix in 2019. Sadly, Bella left them for the other side of the Rainbow Bridge earlier this year. When their hearts were ready, they reached out to ask about Memaw. See, Memaw had a bad habit of reacting poorly to other dogs coming into “her” human’s space, so it was important to find a home with people who understood this and were willing to do what is needed to help curb that behavior. It turns out that little Bella was a spicy nugget too so John and Carrie were no strangers to this sort of thing. Sounds pretty straight forward, right?
Well, things are rarely straight forward in rescue. In her foster home, Memaw started to exhibit strange breathing so we had to investigate further. After a trip to A&M’s small animal hospital, it was determined that she had some physical anomalies which allow acid reflux to occur resulting in microaspiration. This is likely been something she dealt with her whole life and created scar tissue on her lungs. John and Carrie weren’t deterred and waited so patiently and sweetly for their girl.
Once we got her diagnosis and treatment plan all sorted out, we discussed what her needs will be going forward at length with John and Carrie. Though her care may be expensive and she’s at risk of becoming very ill, they didn’t waiver. They loved their girl and it was time to meet her new family. Foster mom drove her to up and made the introductions. After a 3 hour visit, it was clear that Memaw was home.
Memaw is still Memaw aka Mamas or Mini and she has 4 fur brothers/sisters. John and Carrie are her forever mama and daddy and their grandson, Luka, is her newest best bud.
About Meemaw:
6/4/25 PUPDATE:
Interestingly enough Meemaw went to see Dr. Reno and she said shes not old at all. Turns out she would guess her to be about 2 to 3 years old. 😂
Sorry we pegged you with that granny name…
___________________________

This senior girl was found as a stray wandering outside of the Dallas Zoo and was picked up. No owner located so we were contacted. She is estimated to be around 8 years old, has been bred many, many times. She is heartworm negative, but she is hookworm positive, anemic, crazy infected tail pocket, ears look infected as well. We will get her off to see the doctor next week.
