Used up and discarded — that’s the heartbreaking reality for so many older breeding dogs, and both Mrs. Doubtfire and Mrs. Muir came to us in that condition. Seniors are always the hardest to place, and with Mrs. Doubtfire being the oldest, her chances were even slimmer. Once she arrived, she developed an ulcer in her eye that ultimately had to be removed, and she had a long list of other medical needs that required attention.
For a mature Frenchie with her history, we knew she would need a very particular kind of home — one with experience, patience, and a whole lot of heart. Dale and Kara Cullins were exactly that. As three‑time adopters, they’ve consistently stepped up for dogs who need extra care, and we couldn’t be more grateful that they chose to give Mrs. Doubtfire her forever home.
She isn’t a hospice dog, but French bulldogs simply don’t have the longest lifespans, especially those who spent their early years being bred. Even so, she’s still full of personality and spark. She loves toys, and Kara even brought her a stuffed animal nearly as big as she is — the perfect welcome gift. Her new name is still undecided, but whatever they choose, one thing is certain: she will finally know comfort, stability, and the kind of love she should have had all along.
We often shake our heads at the plight of Frenchies, but Mrs. Doubtfire is no longer part of that sad story. Her future is safe, warm, and exactly what she deserves.
Just so very sad, and cannot fathom it for a minute but it seems pretty clear these old girls were used up in the puppy making department so they were dropped at the shelter. One is 10 and one is 7…….I can’t even…
The shelter reached out to see if we would take them, Ricky drove out early this morning, gathered them up and drove them to the sanctuary. Let’s hope they don’t get too sick from the shelter at their age. Both girls will be isolated for a couple of weeks.
