Latest Update:

We received quite a few applications for Olay—Golden Retrievers are such sweet dogs, it’s no surprise everyone wants one. We had even reached out to a previous adopter to discuss the possibility of bringing Olay home, but during that short window an application arrived for both Olay and Havana. Since the two had become besties at the Sanctuary, we couldn’t pass up the chance for them to find a home together. Our previous adopter was incredibly gracious and completely understood.
David and Cathy Cooper of Spring Branch, TX, submitted the application for the pair. They had recently lost their Lab in November, and the house had become far too quiet. What really stood out was their experience with both Golden Retrievers and German Shepherds—exactly the kind of background that made us feel confident about this match.
Havana had been with us at the Sanctuary for quite some time, just as we expected. She began her journey extremely nervous, often huddled in the corner with her sisters, Bombay and Aurora. But she slowly started to come out of her shell, and once she completed her heartworm treatment, we scheduled a meet & greet with the hope they’d head home the very next day. And that’s exactly what happened. The meeting went beautifully, and the girls left for their new life in a spacious home with a fenced two‑acre yard where they’ll have full freedom inside and out.
Their new names couldn’t be sweeter—Havana is now Lone Star, “Star,” and Olay has become Blue Belle, “Belle.” We’re overjoyed that they get to start this new chapter together, learning what life looks like far away from the puppy mills.
We can’t wait to see them shine on Happy Tails as they flourish in their newfound love.
