We reached out to quite a few applicants today and are waiting on responses, but for now, it’s Panda’s turn to head off to her new home. She stayed at the sanctuary longer than expected because, of course, the minute she arrived, she went into heat. We always sigh a little when that happens — it means at least another month in our care before she can be spayed and finally begin her new life.
The Matthews wasted no time submitting an application the moment Panda appeared on the LSDR and DRR Facebook pages, and they have somewhat patiently waited for her to be ready. Melissa Matthews joked that it took everything in her power not to text every single day for updates. Thankfully, a steady stream of cute photos helped tide her over.
One funny thing about very excited adopters: they almost always change their appointment time. The Matthews were originally scheduled to arrive at 1:30 from Midland, TX, but soon texted asking if they could come at 10:30 instead. Absolutely! And then they arrived about fifteen minutes earlier than that. We were more than happy to accommodate their eagerness, and we’re incredibly grateful that Panda is joining such a wonderful home — complete with a retired mom who will be there for her every day.
Panda will keep her name and will have two new fur siblings: Gus, their laid‑back boy, and Junie B, their spunky little girl who should be just fine with Panda’s personality. We also heard that on the drive home, they swung by Chick‑fil‑A for chicken nuggets and a pup cup… so here’s hoping her new siblings can’t still smell it on her breath.

She was rescued by a person who tried to get her as healthy as she could. Unfortunately she couldn’t take it any further and she needed more help that she was able to provide and reached out to us. Dog Friendly and people friendly, she is now at the sanctuary and will start her medical treatment to get her skin and allergies under control. This fluffy girl is a funny girl and I’m sure will be an easy placement once she’s ready. She is approx 2 years old.
