It happens again… Just like Toofers, Poppi had been at the Sanctuary for quite a while. At 70 pounds and just one year old, he was still a playful puppy who got along well with the other dogs. However, like Toofers, he didn’t quite shine during meet-and-greets with potential adopters. Though he was full of energy in the yard, he would freeze up when meeting new people. During one interaction, he got incredibly shy when a poodle came to greet him. In another, he was too nervous to even make eye contact. But we never give up! We kept sharing his story on our Facebook page and reviewing applications. We knew it would take just one perfect match.
That match came in the form of Robert & Carla Rota, who already had a standard poodle, Danny, and two toy poodles, Chanel & Bitzi. Eager to meet Poppi, they drove out to the Sanctuary, hoping for a good connection. With fingers crossed, we introduced Poppi to Danny in the turf yard. Poppi showed his true colors, frolicking around and letting Danny see the playful, loving dog we had come to know. When it came to the toy poodles, however, Poppi wasn’t quite as interested—he simply ignored them – which is very good indeed. It took a little while longer for him to warm up to Robert and Carla, but eventually, he let them pet him. They walked him on a leash around the yard with Danny, and it seemed Poppi decided that if Danny trusted them, so could he.
Poppi went on a 7-day trial, but just 3 days in, we got the text we had been waiting for: Poppi was officially part of their family. It was a perfect match, and they saw the real Poppi that we had always loved. They’re still deciding on a name, as they have a few options in the running. We can’t wait to see him on the Happy Tails page soon, as he’s part of the Village family that have come to love him too!
About Poppi:

We have a new standard poodle at the sanctuary. He just turned one year old, and has lost his home due to having an unhealthy attachment to an older dog in the family. This was stressful not only for the older dog, but also for Poppi when he needed to be separated for any reason. Poppi has a lot of worry, and is pretty confused about what is going on. This is all normal for him, but soon he will learn to think on his own, and will be socialized with many different dogs and people at both the Ranch and Sanctuary. Dogs like Poppi require lots of mental stimulation while they work out their confusion and worries. He will get all of that and more with us while we search for his forever family.
