Latest Update:

Talking with Mary and Craig Wilson of Orlando, FL, I could feel their earnest desire to adopt Ray. Their love for their current dog, Pepper (7yr old Frenchy) and the deep affection they still carry for Monte, who passed away last year, was clear. Monte was Craig’s walking buddy and best friend. (Pepper, on the other hand, prefers a short stroll before asking to be carried—she’s much happier hanging out with Mom.)
Craig has truly missed having a walking companion, and the emptiness left by Monte is felt by the whole family—Craig, Mary, and even Pepper.
Both Craig and Mary are retired, have a trusted longtime vet, a fenced backyard perfect for play, a large toy box, and a back porch where the whole family relaxes together in the evenings. I can already picture Ray out there, scanning the yard for lizards, frogs, and maybe a squirrel or two.
I shared several videos of Ray “talking,” and their response was immediate: “His talking is not at all a deterrent—we actually love it!”
As for logistics, they promised driving to Texas would be no issue. In fact, Mary’s answer when I asked about their timeframe made me laugh: “We practically have one foot out the door—we can leave tomorrow!” These were Ray’s people.
They even said they plan to keep the name “Ray.” After all, Craig’s online gaming screen name is “Ray O Sun”—if that’s not a sign, I don’t know what is!
On the side, I’ll share that Ray did great on the long drive to Florida. He’s already met the resident parrot (with a few words to say) and was soon distracted by the big toy box waiting for him.
Have a wonderful life, my talking man! I can’t wait to see your updates on the Happy Tails page.

About Ray:
8/24/25  Pupdate:
Meet Ray!
Great news about this sweet boy—Ray is heartworm negative, parasite free, and has healthy teeth. The only thing left on his checklist is a neuter, which he’ll be getting this week.
Ray is about 4 years old, weighs 29 lbs, and has so much love to give. He gets along well with other dogs, adores his Nylabones and most stuffed toys, and has quite the vocal range—sometimes it’s almost like he’s talking to you! He especially loves pointing out rabbits, squirrels and frogs on walks, so if you’re looking for a walking buddy, Ray is your guy.
He’s doing well with crate training and has never had an accident in his crate. He sleeps quietly through the night and seems to be house trained. Ray does still have a bit of separation/crate anxiety, but it’s improved a lot since he’s been in foster care.
This sweet, talkative pup is ready to find his forever home where he can share his big personality and even bigger heart.
8/15/25 Pupdate:
Millie took Ray to the vet for his initial exam.  They reviewed the X-rays the shelter sent and did a very thorough check on his back and neck. He does not have IVDD ( possibly a pulled muscle at some point.. maybe). He shows no pain or sensitivity in either his back or neck. His neck has full movement. His paws /leg reflexes perfect.
We did go ahead and do a heartworm test… it’s negative!! His ears, eyes and even teeth look good. Lungs/heart sound good. ( It appears that he was taken care of at some point).
Now, he is doing just fine without having to be confined and recover. Millie said he is a nice little dude. The rest of his vetting will begin soon to get him neutered then it is time to find him a new home!

We were asked if we could help with this boy that found himself in a shelter with IVDD, he is recovering, he is not paralyzed, but is still painful and will need time to rest and recover. This is the kind of rescue that needs Millie and Ricky picked him up this morning to escort him over to medical manor to care for him and get him healthy enough for a new life and home.
