Rita arrived in our care on August 28th, 2025, after her family made the heartbreaking decision to surrender her to the Irving shelter due to the owner’s declining health. The sorrow in her eyes was unmistakable—so profound it moved everyone who saw her, including Kathy Lovett. That very day, Kathy sent an email saying she wanted to bring Rita home.
Kathy and her family had previously adopted Lilly (formerly Bunny) and Chloe (formerly Irish), and they were ready to help lift Rita out of her sadness and into a life filled with love. Because Rita came from a shelter environment, she needed a period of isolation before meeting other dogs to ensure she’d be a good fit in a multi-dog home.
While she waited, we discovered Rita’s sweet personality—she had the most adorable little twirl and a heart full of affection. Unfortunately, she was battling a lingering upper respiratory infection, which delayed her dental cleaning. But once she was healthy and her teeth were sparkling, she was ready for her next chapter.
Kathy came to pick up her newest family member, now lovingly renamed Ali. We’ve since heard that Ali has settled in beautifully with Lilly and Chloe, and her days of sadness are behind her.
