Current Location: Keller, TX
Adoption Date: July 28, 2025
Adopted by: Alan and Bea Allison
Latest Update:

Alan and Bea Allison adopted Ruby (formerly Rinkus) on February 14, 2023. They had waited patiently to adopt, as you may recall, because Ruby was experiencing seizures. Fortunately, those seizures turned out to be stress-related—she hasn’t had a single one since joining their home.
When they began looking for a second dog, they reached out to DRR again to ask about Rosarita. Since they babysit their grandkids a few times a month, it was important that their next dog be gentle and tolerant around children. Because we can no longer kid-test as Jessica’s children have grown up, we arranged a home visit so Rosarita could meet the whole family.
The visit went beautifully. Rosarita was gentle and calm, and the youngest grandchild was thrilled to play ball with her. Everyone had fun during water play and zoomies in the yard. Bea suspects Rosarita may have been around children before—it certainly seemed like a familiar environment to her.
Over the course of the week, the family tried out many different names, but Rosarita seemed to respond more to their voices than to any particular name. In the end, they chose Mattie Rose—“Mattie” after Bea’s grandmother Matilda, and “Rose” from Rosarita. “Rosy” was too similar to Ruby and a bit confusing, and Alan fondly remembered the folk song “Mattie Groves,” which pairs nicely with “Ruby Tuesday.”
Wishing you a joyful life full of fun, love, and grandkid adventures, Mattie Rose!

We have been waiting for this older girl for several days now, she was in a small shelter in Bryan Texas, picked up as a stray bug nobody has ever claimed her. The shelter believes she has a spay scar so we are hoping that she is and won’t need to have surgery.
Ricky drove out to get her today and has brought her to the sanctuary.
Welcome to Dog Ranch Rescue Rosarita.
