Sage stayed with us far longer than anyone expected — and honestly, we’re still not sure why. She’s a wonderful little girl with a heart full of snuggles, and that’s exactly what Rebecca Malicoat of Tulsa, OK had been missing. Rebecca and Dave already have Lucie, a very sweet but fiercely independent Frenchie (yes, it happens!), who prefers to spend her time with Dave. Rebecca recently lost her 15‑year‑old chihuahua, her constant snuggle companion, and that left a quiet space she hoped the right dog could fill.

When their application came in, Sage wasn’t even on their list. But after a thoughtful conversation, it became clear that Sage was the dog they truly needed. Their first meeting wasn’t perfect — Sage was nervous, unsure, and a bit standoffish. But Dave and Rebecca are the kind of adopters who look past a moment and focus on the whole picture. They watched how she interacted with the Sanctuary staff and understood that she simply needed time, patience, and a calm home to decompress. With Rebecca working remotely, Sage would have exactly that… along with a dedicated snuggle buddy every single day.

Sage is now Lola, and we’ve already heard that she was an absolute angel on the drive home, curled up on Rebecca’s lap the entire way. It sounds like the beginning of a beautiful second chapter for sweet Lola, and we couldn’t be happier for them all

We are going to need to altar how many owner surrenders we will be taking in the French Bulldog category. There are too many dogs to rescue, and dogs that have an owner will come in second place to dogs in shelters or on the street. It’s just something we have to do. Dogs that are surrenders have other options, and they are currently in a home so they will not be a priority for us. It is just rescue triage and there are too many Frenchies that need help so we will be very limited on owner surrenders going forward.

Ricky went to pick up this girl this morning, a stray at the shelter in Irving that I know you might be shocked, no owner came forward to claim her. They spayed her for us and she is on her way to the sanctuary with Ricky. As you can see she is a very worried shy girl so she will need a lot of help and love to make her feel safe.
