The truth soon came out: Steve had reached out to Dog Ranch Rescue again, and it could only be for one dog—the one who’d had zero interest. Was it her age? Her adorable crooked ear? Who knows. What mattered was that Steve saw her diamond‑in‑the‑rough charm and decided she belonged with him.

He did worry a bit about Gladys, who’s slowed down lately, but Sally Hanson—now Sally Mae—wasn’t about to rock that boat. She’s as low‑key as they come. And with that, adoption number eight officially entered the Fat Cave, and we couldn’t be happier.

Since Bertie had been privy to all those late‑night searches, she made the trip to the Sanctuary to personally welcome the newest resident into the world according to Fat Man. Now we’re all eagerly waiting to hear—well, read—Sally Mae’s speaking voice. With a name like that, is she destined to be a southern belle? Time will tell.
